Vivo V40 vs Honor 200 performance comparison: finding out the better performer

The mid-range smartphone market is heating up, and the Vivo V40 and Honor 200 are two strong contenders eyeing for your attention. Both phones are built on the same principles and provide a holistic experience. The Rs 34,999 starting price tag also puts them in direct competition but the similarities don’t stop here. Both devices are powered by the same chipset, promising impressive performance. But how do they stack up against each other in real-world use? Let’s find out.

Note: We used the 8GB+128GB variant of the Vivo V40 for our testing purposes, and the benchmark scores will be slightly lower compared to the top-end variant.

Geekbench

Geekbench is the industry standard benchmark that evaluates a device’s CPU performance in single-core and multi-core tasks. Since both the Vivo V40 and Honor 200 are equipped with the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, these scores don’t look too different.

Geekbench Score
Vivo V40 Honor 200
Single-core 1164 1167
Multi-core 3216 3360

Before we share the results, it’s important to note that single-core performance affects tasks like word processing, web browsing, and app loading speeds. In contrast, multi-core performance affects tasks like gaming, photo and video editing, multitasking, etc.

In our tests, the Vivo V40 scored 1164 on the single-core test and 3216 on the multi-core test. The Honor 200 on the other hand scored 1167 points on the single-core test and 3360 points on the multi-core tests. The results are slightly in favour of the Honor 200 since it has a faster memory and storage chip.

Winner: Honor 200

AnTuTu

AnTuTu is another popular benchmark that goes a step further than Geekbench and assesses a device’s overall performance, including CPU, GPU, memory, and storage. The Vivo V40 scored 8,10,653 points in our testing compared to Honor 200’s 8,25,206 score.

AnTuTu Score
Vivo V40 8,10,653
Honor 200 8,25,206

The marginal difference in scores is due to the Honor 200 having higher RAM, and a slightly smoother OS.

Winner: Honor 200

Throttling test

For the throttling test, we use the Burnout benchmark app to check the stability of the smartphone chipset undress stress. Subjecting the phone to various stress tests gives us a rough estimate of the performance output under CPU throttling.

Burnout (CPU Throttle) – Higher is better
Vivo V40 68.8%
Honor 200 79.3%

In our Burnout CPU throttle test, the Vivo V40 got a performance output of 68.8 percent, whereas the Honor 200 registered a much better result, throttling down to only 79.3 percent.

Winner: Honor 200

Gaming test

Gaming is a demanding task that truly puts a smartphone’s capabilities to the test. Our methodology for this test includes playing all the popular gaming titles for 30-40 minutes each at the highest possible settings. To keep the scoring fair, there is a cooling time in between games and we note the pre and post-game temperatures and battery drops.

Call of Duty: Mobile Battlegrounds Mobile India
Vivo V40 Honor 200 Vivo V40 Honor 200
Pre-Game Temperature 29.8 °C 29.6 °C 29.8 °C 31 °C
Post-Game Temperature 32.7 °C 36.1 °C 35.1 °C 37.1 °C
Temperature Rise 2.9 °C 6.5 °C 5.3 °C 6.1 °C

We played BGMI, COD: Mobile, and Real Racing 3 on both phones and the games ran smoothly on the highest settings. The Honor 200 delivered a slightly better FPS count in certain titles than the Vivo V40.

As for the thermals, the Vivo V40 got an average temperature increase of 5 degrees Celsius across each game, while the Honor 200 showed an average jump of 7 degrees. The extra 2 degrees aggregate temperature jump also caused the Honor 200 is draw more battery juice. The Honor 200 wins this round due to better FPS while gaming, but this comes at the cost of higher temperatures and battery draw.

Winner: Honor 200

Verdict

The Vivo V40 and Honor 200 offer solid performance for their price point. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset ensures smooth everyday performance. However, when it comes to gaming and sustained performance, the Honor 200 takes a slight lead. The Vivo V40 counters that with better thermal and battery management.

Ultimately, the best phone for you depends on your specific needs and preferences.
