Motorola Edge 50 Neo vs Vivo T3 Pro camera comparison: which mid-range phone captures better photos?

After our performance and battery comparison between the Moto Edge 50 Neo (review), and the Vivo T3 Pro (review), where the Vivo T3 Pro outshined its competitor. Today, we bring you the final camera comparison between the two for the shutterbugs.

The Motorola Edge 50 Neo uses a 50MP Sony LYTIA 700C sensor paired with Qualcomm Spectra 12-bit Triple ISP. Whereas the Vivo T3 Pro uses the IMX882 50MP sensor from Sony paired with MediaTek Imagiq 950 12-bit HDR-ISP. As the Vivo T3 Pro lacks the telephoto lens, we won’t be including zoom shots in this comparison.

Motorola Edge 50 Neo retails for Rs 22,999, while the Vivo T3 Pro is available for Rs 24,999 in the country.

Daylight

Both the Motorola Edge 50 Neo and Vivo T3 Pro are equipped with a 50MP primary sensor with OIS. However, their sensor differs, as the Edge 50 Neo uses the Sony LYTIA 700C, whereas the Vivo T3 Pro uses the Sony IMX882 sensor.

The Vivo T3 Pro captured more light and hence has less noise across the image, be it the fountain’s top structure or the trees towards the left. Moto’s processing bumped up the contrast a little, leading to a darker and unnatural image. Additionally, the signboards captured by Vivo are more detailed.

Conversely, Edge 50 Neo has a wider field of view and also retains more details in the ground tiles. With a slight contrast touchup, Moto did a better job managing the bloom around light sources. Since the Vivo T3 Pro performed better in more aspects, it comes out as a winner.

Winner: Vivo T3 Pro

Ultrawide

Both phones did a good job of maintaining colour consistency when switched to an ultrawide lens, but the Vivo T3 Pro’s 8MP sensor did a slightly better job. Surprisingly, the 13MP sensor on the Moto Edge 50 Neo did not apply the overly contrasty and dramatic look to the ultrawide shot, making it more appealing than the regular shot.

The higher megapixel sensor on the Motorola Edge 50 Neo retains more details with noise in the image, which can be seen on ground tiles and building panels.

The Vivo T3 Pro has more punchy colours, but the blue sky looks more prominent in Motorola’s image, which has depth to it. As per a blind poll run among our colleagues, Moto’s image won more votes.

Winner: Motorola Edge 50 Neo

Portrait

Neither of the portraits captured looks close to real, as the Moto’s overly contrasty image made the image darker, and so did the subject’s skin tone. Conversely, the Vivo T3 Pro ramped up the brightness, making the subject’s skin tone lighter than natural.

The HDR processing and colour accuracy of other elements, including the subject’s attire, is better on the Motorola Edge 50 Neo. The Vivo T3 Pro overexposed the sky and artificially boosted the colours, which is far off from reality.

Vivo T3 Pro did a better job at edge detection and isolating the subject from the background. However, the sharpness and detailing on the subject’s face is better handled by Moto.

Winner: Motorola Edge 50 Neo

Selfie

The selfie camera on the Moto Edge 50 Neo has a wider field of view, similar to that of the rear camera. The images that we clicked had close to natural colours in the background and the subject’s attire. The Motorola Edge 50 Neo handles HDR processing well, with less noise and more detailed images.

The Vivo T3 Pro artificially boosted the colours, brightness and increased the vibrancy to add a little punch. The background and subject separation is more prominent on the Vivo. However, slight skin smoothing can be observed in the pictures clicked on Vivo, and these images also had an increased sharpness.

Winner: Motorola Edge 50 Neo

Low light

Without any sort of night mode kicking in, the low-light images from Moto Edge 50 Neo struggled to handle extremely harsh light sources, as can be observed with the halogen falling on the pillar. Motorola Edge 50 Neo did a better job at HDR processing, controlling bloom near light poles. Details are better retained with minimal noise in the area where there are shadows, and colours are close to accurate compared to its competitor.

The 16MP sensor on the Vivo T3 Pro struggled to retain details in low light, and the colour accuracy of the Zupee sign is a bit off. Vivo’s processing poorly boosted the image’s brightness, as can be observed through the glass panels on the right and the plants in front of them. Also, neon bleeding can be observed around the light pole.

Winner: Motorola Edge 50 Neo

Night mode

When the night mode is enabled Moto’s image remains more or less the same, except the bloom around light sources is better controlled.

With the night mode, the brightness of the image captured via Vivo T3 Pro is much better and evenly spread, as the trees on the left are properly legible. However, the exposure control around light sources is now worse compared to low-light mode, and there is no improvement in the details captured. A warm tone is overshadowed by the LED lights throughout the entire image.

Winner: Tie

Verdict

Here’s a glance at the final results of our camera comparison between the Motorola Edge 50 Neo and the Vivo T3 Pro to see how well they compare.

Scenario Winner
Daylight Vivo T3 Pro
Ultrawide Motorola Edge 50 Neo
Portrait Motorola Edge 50 Neo
Selfie Motorola Edge 50 Neo
Low light Motorola Edge 50 Neo
Night mode Tie

The Motorola Edge 50 Neo offers better on-paper specs with an additional telephoto lens, higher resolution ultrawide and front camera. This technical advantage was also observed in our comparisons, as the Edge 50 Neo performed better in low light with more details and lesser noise.

The Vivo T3 Pro excelled in daylight HDR shots, with better vibrancy and pleasing pictures. If colour accuracy is kept aside, the portraits from T3 Pro are more social media friendly.

In a nutshell, you won’t be disappointed with either of these devices, as both of them bring their unique perspective and tastes to the table. But if you are a telephoto person, the Motorola Edge 50 Neo is the one for you.
