The recently launched Motorola Edge 50 (review) starts at Rs. 27,999, and the OnePlus Nord 4 (review) starts at Rs. 29,999, are close competitors in the sub 30,000 segment. After our battery and performance comparison, today, we bring you the third comparison to test the imaging capabilities of Moto Edge 50 and Nord 4 and help you pick a better all-rounder phone.
Motorola Edge 50 and OnePlus Nord 4 camera specifications
To keep this comparison fair for both phones, we have tested the point-and-shoot capabilities in various lighting conditions and environments. Since the OnePlus Nord 4 does not have a telephoto lens, we will not be comparing the zoom capabilities of both phones. Before we begin the comparison, let’s have a quick look at the camera specifications of the Motorola Edge 50 and OnePlus Nord 4.
Motorola Edge 50 | OnePlus Nord 4 | |
Primary Sensor | 50MP f/1.8 aperture with OIS | 50MP Sony LYTIA sensor with f/1.8 and EIS + OIS |
Secondary Sensor | 13MP ultrawide sensor with 120-degree FoV | 8MP ultrawide sensor with 112-degree FoV |

The Motorola Edge 50, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Mobile Platform, uses the Qualcomm Spectra triple 14-bit Image Signal Processor (ISP) with up to 10-bit colour depth. Meanwhile, the OnePlus Nord 4, powered by Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3, uses the Qualcomm Spectra 18-bit triple Cognitive ISP. Technically, the OnePlus Nord 4 with higher bit rate support should perform better. Does this technical advantage make the OnePlus Nord 4 a better camera phone for real-life usage? Let’s dive into the camera comparison to find out.
Daylight
Both the Motorola Edge 50 and the OnePlus Nord 4 are equipped with 50MP sensors. Motorola’s results have a cooler hue and are more saturated, while the Nord 4’s result appeared hazy on a gloomy day.
The primary sensor on the Motorola Edge 50 offers a wider field of view as it captures more ground tiles and the railing at the building’s top. Moto Edge 50 images are sharper than Nord 4’s results at the mid-frame. In terms of details, though the OnePlus Nord 4 handles HDR better and retains more data in elements like the signboards, trees, and bushes, the shadow areas are less noisy on the Motorola Edge 50.
Overall, the punchy and vibrant image of the Moto Edge 50 is more pleasing to social media posts than the one captured by the OnePlus Nord 4.
Winner: Motorola Edge 50
Ultrawide
The ultrawide lens on the Moto Edge 50 not only offers a slightly wider field of view, but the higher resolution sensor also retains more details across the image compared to its counterpart. The colour consistency between the wide and ultrawide lenses is better on the Motorola Edge 50. Whereas when switched to the ultrawide lens the Nord’s output appeared a bit cooler.
Akin to the primary lens, there’s a slight bloom around the edges of trees in the OnePlus Nord 4’s image. Again, the OnePlus Nord 4’s images have better HDR, but the Motorola Edge 50 captures social media-friendly images with a balance of vibrancy and warmth.
Winner: Motorola Edge 50
Portrait
The portrait shots from the Motorola Edge 50 capture close to accurate skin tones, whereas the OnePlus Nord 4 captures the colour of the t-shirt better. Surprisingly, the infamous oversaturation of the Moto Edge series is not present in portraits captured from Edge 50. Another point worth noting is that the OnePlus Nord 4 is better than its competitor in edge detection, if not accurate.
The portrait shots from the OnePlus Nord 4 are more detailed in terms of the subject’s face and attire. Motorola Edge 50 handles exposure, white balance, and natural bokeh better.
Winner: Tie
Selfie
The Moto Edge 50’s higher megapixel sensor captured better facial details of the subject, including the skin texture and complexion. This time, oversaturated colours were observed in the images, while the shadows were better retained on the Motorola Edge 50.
The OnePlus Nord 4 did a better job of capturing the subject’s t-shirt colour and handling the contrast well, though it killed the shadows. The Nord 4’s image’s white balance is quite off, and the bloom sky issue can be observed in the selfies as well. Overall, the selfies from Motorola Edge 50 look better suited for social media.
Winner: Motorola Edge 50
Low light
Without any night mode kicking in, the low-light shots from the Motorola Edge 50 are sub-par, as it struggles to manage the reds and warm tones from the lights. The panels on the building are not consistently lit up, and the glass windows appear poorly exposed. HDR performance is also below average.
Conversely, the OnePlus Nord 4’s image looks much better. It is evenly lit, reds are managed well, and the warm ambience of the street lamp is captured much better. The HDR performance, details, and exposure on the backlight signboard are well-balanced.
Winner: OnePlus Nord 4
Night mode
When the night mode kicks in, the results from the OnePlus Nord 4 look pretty much identical to those from the low-light mode, as the regular low-light mode also takes a long-exposure shot by default.
The night mode on Motorola Edge 50 brought much improvement to the picture, as the reds are much more balanced now. The subtle gradient on the building panel is consistent, details are also slightly improved and the light sources are now evenly lit.
Winner: Motorola Edge 50
Verdict
As observed in the camera samples, the Motorola Edge 50 did a commendable job in daylight shots, selfies, and night shots, as it gets the skin tone right and retains the overall look of the image. The OnePlus Nord 4 catches up with pleasing portraits and excels in low-light performance. You won’t be disappointed with either of them, but if you are a telephoto person, the Motorola Edge 50 is the one for you.
