Honor 200 vs Motorola Edge 50 Pro performance comparison: same chipset, but which one’s faster?

The Honor 200 and Motorola Edge 50 Pro (review) have some similarities when it comes to their specifications. Both of these phones feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset and are priced quite similarly. In this comparison, we’ll evaluate their performance to determine which device delivers superior results.

Geekbench

The Geekbench test evaluates the CPU performance of a smartphone. Since both phones have similar chipset, their CPU scores are quite on par. The Honor 200 registered 1167 on the single-core test and 3360 on the multi-core test.

The Motorola Edge 50 Pro, in turn, registered 1142 on the single-core test and 3119 on the multi-core test. The Honor 200 has a higher multi-core score and should be able to deliver better performance in tasks like gaming, video editing, etc.

Winner: Honor 200  

AnTuTu

The AnTuTu benchmark is a more comprehensive test which also involves aspects like CPU performance, GPU performance, memory performance and user experience. There’s a negligible difference between the benchmark score of both these phones.

The Honor 200 logs an aggregate score of 8,25,206, while the Motorola Edge 50 Pro registers a score of 8,27,231. The difference is minimal and does not reflect any major performance difference between the two phones.  

Winner: Tie 

Throttling test

We use the Burnout benchmark app to gauge the performance output of smartphones under throttling. The Honor 200 registered a performance output of 79.3 percent under throttling. The Motorola Edge 50 Pro, in turn, registered an output of 70.6 percent. The former is more stable under stress and should offer better performance output with heavier tasks. 

Winner: Honor 200 

Gaming test

For our gaming test, we played BGMI, COD: Mobile, and Real Racing 3 on both phones for 30 minutes each. Both phones are quite capable and can comfortably play all three games. Real Racing 3 only offers “Standard” graphic settings for its gameplay and automatically adjusts the visual fidelity according to the device configurations.

The Honor 200 registered an average 88FPS, while the Motorola Edge 50 Pro registered an average of 55FPS. The Motorola Edge 50 Pro ran the game at higher visual fidelity, which resulted in lower frame rate output. Here are the game settings and average FPS in BGMI and COD: Mobile.

Looking at the thermals of both phones, the Honor 200 shows an aggregate temperature increase of 21.6 degrees Celsius (7.3 degrees average). The Motorola Edge 50 Pro registers an aggregate temperature increase of 17.3 degrees Celsius (5.7 degrees average). The Motorola Edge 50 Pro wins the round due to its superior thermal management since the gaming performance of both devices is quite on par. 

Winner: Motorola Edge 50 Pro 

Verdict

The Honor 200 wins the performance comparison against the Motorola Edge 50 Pro with a slight edge. It offers marginally better performance in synthetic benchmarks and a comparable gameplay experience. The Motorola Edge 50 Pro, in turn, has better thermal management, which helps prolong the smartphone’s lifespan. If you want a device that delivers good performance and are confused between the Honor 200 and the Motorola Edge 50 Pro, you can’t go wrong with either of them.
