iQOO Z9x vs Moto G64 performance comparison: numbers aren’t everything

After launching the performance-focused iQOO Z9 in India just two months ago, iQOO has introduced another iteration of the smartphone. Dubbed the iQOO Z9x, the smartphone also commits to reliable performance, though with a wider mass appeal. Its price in India starts at Rs 12,999, putting it in direct competition with popular choices, including the Moto G64 (review), Motorola’s relatively new smartphone that also emphasises performance at an affordable price (starting at Rs 14,999).

How do the two smartphones fare against each other? Here’s a performance comparison between iQOO Z9x and Moto G64.

iQOO Z9x vs Moto G64: specifications

Smartphone iQOO Z9x Moto G64
Processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC MediaTek Dimensity 7025 SoC
GPU Qualcomm Adreno 710  IMG BXM-8-256
Memory Up to 8GB RAM, 128GB storage Up to 12GB RAM, 256GB storage

Geekbench

We are comparing the top variant of Moto G64, which offers 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage (Rs 15,999). On the other hand, iQOO Z9x offers 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for the same sticker price.

In Geekbench’s single-core test, the Moto G64 was marginally ahead, while the iQOO Z9x achieved a much higher multi-core score. The scores indicate that the Moto G64 may handle basic tasks, including web browsing, basic app load, and messaging, relatively better, perhaps with snappier performance or animation. For heavy tasks, including gaming and editing, the iQOO Z9x might be a better companion.

Winner: iQOO Z9x

AnTuTu

In the AnTuTu test, which evaluates the processor’s capabilities as well as GPU and memory performance, the iQOO Z9x is again ahead of the Moto G64.

Despite bumping up numbers (RAM + storage), the Dimensity 7025-powered Moto G64 stood behind the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC-powered iQOO Z9x in almost all areas (CPU, GPU, memory, and UX) evaluated by AnTuTu.

Winner: iQOO Z9x

CPU Throttle

A higher performance metric may not be necessarily superior until we test its stability under heavy load. In the CPU throttle test with the Burnout app, the iQOO Z9x delivered a performance output of 81.1 percent, and the Moto G64 registered a performance output of 70 percent.

The result suggests that the iQOO Z9x would function effectively under heavy load.

Winner: iQOO Z9x

Gaming

While numbers mostly favour iQOO Z9x, it all won’t make sense if real-life use cases fall short. To test gaming, we played three popular moderately demanding mobile games for 30 minutes each.

Both iQOO Z9x and Moto G64 can run Call of Duty at 60fps, though getting consistent high-frame rates is always going to be tricky in this price range. iQOO Z9x supports high graphics, while the Moto G64 supports “max” graphics. Both devices consumed 6 percent battery after 30 minutes of playtime, though Moto G64 got warmer at the end of the round. Similarly, in BGMI, both smartphones support similar graphics. iQOO Z9x consumed 5 percent battery after 30 minutes, and Moto G64 by 6 percent. However, these differences aren’t substantial.

Lastly, we played Real Racing 3 with standard graphics on both devices. Again, the Moto G64 and iQOO Z9x consumed a similar battery (6 percent). In that case, the gaming test is more or less a tie between the two.

Winner: Tie

Verdict

iQOO Z9x and Moto G64 are capable devices in the sub-Rs 15,000 category and exhibit similar performance, at least when it comes to gaming. Based on numbers, the iQOO Z9x is ahead despite having limited RAM capacity.

Before you make the final decision, you may also want to keep in mind:

  • The top variant of Moto G64 offers 256Gb storage, while iQOO Z9x offers only 128GB storage. Both phones utilise the same storage tech.
  • iQOO Z9x and Moto G64 feature a 120Hz LCD, meaning the viewing experience is decent, though you may miss out on deeper blacks and punchier colours that an AMOLED panel offers. The iQOO Z9x has a taller display.
  • Both smartphones carry a massive 6,000mAh battery. The iQOO Z9 offers faster 44W charging versus 30W on the Moto G64.
