You can now use Google Pixel’s exclusive Magic Eraser feature on any phone, but there’s a catch
Google Photos is getting support for Magic Eraser, which is the company’s machine learning and AI-based photo editing feature that will allow users to remove any unwanted objects and people in photos. However, this feature will be available only to Google One subscribers. The feature was previously available only to the Pixel 7 and Pixel 6 series of phones. This feature simplifies the task of learning how to use apps like Photoshop to remove objects.
The Mountain View giant is also adding HDR Video effects and new collage styles to Google Photos on iOS and Android smartphones. The Magic Eraser feature will be available to all users across all plans. However, owners of Google Pixel 5a and earlier models are gain support for Magic Eraser in Google Photos without a subscription.
Google Magic Eraser
Google’s Magic Eraser feature relies on machine learning and AI computing that is performed on-device for the Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 6, and Pixel 6 Pro phones. Users can remove people, objects and more from their photos by tapping, circling, or brushing over them. On devices that do not come with Google’s in-house Tensor SoC, these tasks are likely to be done on the company’s servers.
HDR effect for videos
The company has also mentioned that the HDR effect for videos will roll out to Google One subscribers. Like the HDR effect for images on Google Photos, users will not be able to improve brightness and contrast on the videos. This is claimed to add a more dramatic effect. This feature will be available to older Pixel models without Google One subscription.
Lastly, Google has revealed that Google One subscribers and Pixel owners will gain access to new collage editor styles on the Google Photos app. These will include limited-time styles from artists like Yao Cheng Designs and DABSMYLA. According to the company, users will be able to add styles to a single photo in a collage.
