Vodafone Idea offers Rs 49 plan free recharge plan for low-income users, just like Airtel and Jio
Hot on the heels of Airtel and Jio giving away their Rs 49 plan for free to underprivileged customers, Vodafone Idea has also thrown its hat in the ring. The network provider has officially announced that it, too, will let low-income users avail of its Rs 49 recharge plan one time. Similar to Airtel, the Vodafone Idea Rs 49 plan also offers Rs 39 worth of talktime,100MB of mobile internet, and 30 days of validity. Local and national calls are charged at Rs 0.25/minute. Vodafone Idea also doubled some of the benefits of its Rs 79 plan, which offers Rs 64 worth of talktime, 200MB mobile internet, and 28 days of validity.
Much like, Airtel, Vodafone Idea also claims that this endeavour will help over 60 million underprivileged users, and said the following via a press release (via ETTelecom), “As a special gesture, with this one-time offer, VIL will be extending benefits worth up to Rs 2,940 million to the low-income group users in the country”.
Interestingly enough, none of the telcos who made the announcement shed light on just how they plan on letting low-income users access the free Rs 49 plan. A lot of the underprivileged users in question aren’t particularly tech-savvy, so redirecting them to a website/app link would be of little use. Furthermore, many of the users in question might not have access to a smartphone, too.

Besides, neither company has defined who qualifies for the schemes. Nor do we know just when they plan on rolling out these schemes. One can only hope that they offer a more detailed explanation soon, as it would stand to benefit a lot of low-income users.
