4 reasons to buy and 3 reasons to skip the iPhone 16

The iPhone 16 is the base model in the latest lineup featuring the iPhone 16 Plus, Pro, and Pro Max. It has a refreshed design, a new Camera Control button, the newest chipset, and more. In India, the iPhone 16 starts at Rs 79,900 and goes up to Rs 1,09,900. It is still an expensive device but one of the best iPhones available in the market.

If you’ve been wondering whether you should buy the iPhone 16 or not, this article should help you. Based on our review, we’ve listed reasons to buy or skip the iPhone 16.

4 reasons to buy the iPhone 16

Impressive performance

The iPhone 16 is powered by the latest A18 chipset. Apple usually puts the older chipsets in the regular iPhones but the iPhone 16 doesn’t get this treatment. You also get 8GB of RAM, which is double of what the older models offer. With both combined, the iPhone 16 can easily breeze through regular tasks. It’s also quite power-efficient when handling basic tasks like messaging, and browsing through social media. The chipset’s benchmark numbers were impressive too managing to beat Exynos 2400, Tensor G4, and MediaTek Dimensity 9300-powered phones in the segment.

Great for photography

The iPhone 16 has a 48MP primary sensor and a 12MP ultra-wide sensor that can be used for macro shots as well. The 48MP primary camera doubles up as a 12MP telephoto lens with 2x zoom. Photos taken with the iPhone 16 look sharp and clear, and portraits look much natural now compared to the iPhone 15. Low-light shots also appear sharp and clean with no noticeable noise.

Apple updated Photographic Styles with five new options and you get to adjust the tone, colour, and palette of your photos. We found that these settings help by giving users more control over their photos and the kind of changes they want.

Improved battery life

With the iPhone 16, you should get around 5 to 6 hours of screen-on time during heavy usage. You would still have around 20 to 30 percent battery life remaining at the end of the day. With light usage, the iPhone 16 is capable of lasting not only through the day but the next as well. The iPhone 16 also has slightly improved fast charging and it can now charge up to 50 percent in just 30 minutes.

Colour options

Apple offers a colourful lineup for the iPhone 16. This time the colours seem brighter and visually more pleasing. You can choose between Ultramarine, Teal, Pink, White, and Black. The colour also nicely blends with the rear cameras now stacked vertically on the iPhone 16.

3 reasons to skip the iPhone 16

Finicky Camera Control

The Camera Control is something new Apple introduced with the iPhone 16 series. It is located on the side and you need to press it in different ways to trigger specific actions. The Camera Control seems very finicky for now and more of a task in itself than something that’s supposed to help. In our experience, we didn’t like how selecting ‘Depth’ would become the default each time you use the button and going back to a different setting turned out to be tedious.

60Hz refresh rate

The regular iPhone 16 models, unfortunately still don’t support 120Hz refresh rate. This is something that’s standard with other phones even in the budget segment. The iPhone 16 display isn’t but the 120Hz refresh rate would definitely make the user experience much better and smoother.

Fast charging still not up to the mark

The iPhone 16 does come with improved fast charging but it’s still not up to the mark in comparison with rivals. In our testing, the iPhone 16 took roughly 80 minutes to charge from 20 to 100 percent using Apple’s 30W MacBook charger. So you’d still have to wait about an hour for the phone to fully charge.
