Vivo V40

The Vivo V40 features a glass body with a matte finish. The brand logo is located in the bottom left corner of the rear panel, along with a pill-shaped camera island that houses a triple camera system and an Aura flashlight. Its front panel features a curved display with a punch-hole cutout. The device has an IP68 classification, which makes it usable in rain.

The OnePlus 12R comes with curved glass on the front and back and a matte metal frame, giving it a premium look. The rear glass and camera module have a glossy surface with a matte accent that extends into the frame and has an Alert Slider on the left side. At the front, it has a curved display with a punch-hole cutout. It has IP64 protection against dust and water splashes.

Both phones have identical display specifications. However, the OnePlus 12R has a better LTPO panel than the Vivo V40’s standard screen. The LTPO technology consumes less power than the standard display and adjusts the refresh rate based on the on-screen content. Moreover, the OnePlus 12R has Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 compared to the Schott α glass of the Vivo V40 for better durability against scratches.

The OnePlus 12R (review) features a more powerful SoC than the Vivo V40. It also offers more RAM options, which can result in a smoother multitasking experience. However, their benchmark results across multiple platforms show a significant difference in performance.

The Vivo V40, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 CPU, achieved 8,10,653 points on AnTuTu, 1,165 points in the single-core test and 3,216 points in the multi-core test on Geekbench. The OnePlus 12R, on the other hand, scored 1,564 points on the single-core test, 5,097 points on the multi-core test on Geekbench, and 14,73,559 points on AnTuTu.

Vivo V40

The Vivo 40 has a better camera setup than the OnePlus 12R for both front and back. While both phones have a 50MP primary camera, the Vivo V40 has a 50MP ultra-wide lens compared to the OnePlus 12R’s 8MP ultra-wide snapper. 

However, you get an additional 2MP macro shooter with the OnePlus 12R for close-up shots. At the front, the Vivo V40 has a 50MP sensor compared to the OnePlus 12R’s 16MP camera The higher megapixel number will result in more detailed and clear selfies and video calls. 

Vivo V40 vs OnePlus 12R: Battery and charging

While both phones have a large 5,500mAh battery capacity, the OnePlus 12R offers faster 100W fast charging compared to the Vivo V30 Pro’s 80W. You can charge the OnePlus 12R from 0 percent to 100 percent in just 30 minutes, while it takes around 45 minutes to fully charge the Vivo V40. 

Despite having the same battery capacity, the Vivo V40 scores significantly lower in the PCMark battery test than the OnePlus 12R. During our testing, the Vivo V40 lasted 13 hours, whereas the OnePlus 12R lasted 20.

Vivo V40 vs OnePlus 12R: software

Both phones boot on the latest version of Android OS out of the box. With the Vivo V40, you get Funtouch OS based on Android 14, while the OnePlus 12R offers Android 14-based Oxygen OS.

Vivo promises two years of major OS updates and three years of security patches with the Vivo V40, while OnePlus offers three years of Android OS releases and four years of security updates for the OnePlus 12R. 

Verdict

Both smartphones offer remarkable specifications under the hood but the OnePlus 12R has more to offer. You get a better display, a more powerful SoC, a longer battery life for extended use, more RAM for multitasking, and faster charging with the OnePlus 12R. However, the Vivo V40 has a better front and rear camera setup and more internal storage options.

The OnePlus 12R is also costlier so if you’re tight on budget you can consider the Vivo V40.
