Motorola Edge 50 vs OnePlus Nord 4: design
The Motorola Edge 50 features a leather back with an aluminium frame. The Jungle Green variant has textured leather while the Peach Fuzz and Koala Grey have a suede finish in an orange and black shade respectively. The device comes with Military grade MIL-STD 810H certification for better durability and an IP68 rating for protection against dust and water splashes.
On the other hand, the OnePlus Nord 4 has a metal body with a dual-tone finish. You get a different finish with every shade: the Mercurial Silver has a 2D laser-etched design in a silver tone, the Obsidian Midnight version is textured and features dark black and grey colours, and the Oasis Green variant is light and dark green with a matte-like finish. However, it only has IP65 protection for dust and water splashes.

Both phones feature a 1.5K resolution display with a 120Hz refresh rate, delivering a clear and smooth viewing experience. However, the OnePlus Nord 4 has a better AMOLED panel than the Motorola Edge 50’s pOLED screen, offering better accuracy and more vibrant colours.
Besides this, the Motorola Edge 50 features Gorilla Glass 5, while the OnePlus Nord 4 doesn’t have any additional protection layer. Moreover, the Edge 50 also has a curved screen compared to the Nord 4’s flat panel.

The OnePlus Nord 4 has a more powerful SoC at the helm than the Motorola Edge 50. Moreover, the Nord 4 also gives you the option of up to 12GB RAM while the Edge 50 maxes out at 8GB RAM. The 4GB RAM difference will be noticeable while multitasking.
The overall difference in performance is also pretty evident in their benchmark scores. With the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 AE, the Edge 50 scored 714,295 points on AnTuTu, and on Geekbench 1,142 points for the single-core test and 3,119 points for the multi-core test. On the other hand, the Nord 4 got 11,69,622 points on AnTuTu and 1,744 points for the single-core test with 4,365 points for the multi-core test on Geekbench.

While both devices feature a 50MP primary camera, the Edge 50 has a better 13MP ultrawide lens than the Nord 4’s 8MP sensor. Moreover, the Edge 50 also comes with an additional 10MP telephoto shooter that can come in handy for close-up shots.
You also get a high megapixel 32MP front snapper with the Edge 50 compared to the Nord 4’s 16MP camera, which should result in more detailed selfies and video calls. However, the Nord 4 can shoot 4K videos at 60fps, while the Edge 50 can only capture 4K videos at 30fps.

The OnePlus Nord 4 has a larger 5,500mAh battery capacity and supports a faster 100W charging speed than the Motorola Edge 50’s 5,000mAh cell and 68W charging. However, the Edge 50 also supports 15W wireless charging, a luxury you don’t get with the Nord 4.
The Nord 4, on paper, should offer better battery backup and refuel the device quicker than the Edge 50. On the PCMark battery test, the Nord 4 (review) lasted 16 hours and 58 minutes and took 23 minutes to charge the battery from 20 percent to 100 percent. However, we’re yet to conduct battery and charging tests on the Edge 50 to learn about the real-life difference between the two.
Motorola Edge 50 vs OnePlus Nord 4: software
Both phones ship with the latest version of Android out of the box. The Motorola Edge with Android 14 OS offers a stock Android experience, while the OnePlus Nord 4 runs on Android 14-based OxygenOS custom skin. While there are some pre-installed apps on both phones, you can easily remove them if they aren’t necessary. Moreover, both devices come with AI features for a better software experience.
However, OnePlus promises four years of OS updates and six years of security patches with the Nord 4, while Motorola only offers two major Android releases and three years of security updates with the Edge 50.
Verdict
Overall, both smartphones are a good package with respectable specifications in each department for the asking price. The choice between the two boils down to your preferences, as each phone has its own perks and drawbacks.
If you want a better camera setup, superior build quality, and display protection, the Edge 50 is for you. However, if you prioritise performance, battery life, and software updates, the Nord 4 will suit you better.
