Motorola Edge 50 vs Nothing Phone (2a) Plus: design
Motorola Edge 50 and Nothing Phone (2a) Plus are very distinct when it comes to design. With the Edge 50, you get a slim and sleek body in vegan leather and vegan suede. This gives a more premium look and feel. It also has the MIL-STD 810H military-grade certification and IP68 rating making it quite durable.
The Nothing Phone (2a) Plus offers one of the most unique designs in this price segment with its Glyph LED lights at the back. It’s a fun and refreshing look for anyone looking for something different. But its durability isn’t the best as the phone has a weaker IP54 rating.
While both phones look good in their way, you might want to consider the Motorola Edge 50 for the extra protection.
Motorola Edge 50 vs Nothing Phone (2a) Plus: display
Both phones offer almost the same display but the Motorola Edge 50 has a slight edge over the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus. The Edge 50 offers a slightly better 1.5K resolution and higher peak brightness. Both phones come with Gorilla Glass 5 protection so the durability would be the same. The Motorola Edge 50 also has a curved display which looks good but might not be the best option for gaming.
Motorola Edge 50 vs Nothing Phone (2a) Plus: performance
Motorola Edge 50 and Nothing Phone (2a) Plus not only use different chipsets but from different companies as well. We’re yet to review the Edge 50 so we can’t give a verdict on its performance. As for the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus, we found it to be a capable performer with seamless multi-tasking and good thermal management while gaming.
We do have the benchmark scores for both phones. Nothing Phone (2a) Plus has a higher AnTuTu score than the Edge 50 at 771,491 while Motorola’s phone gets 714,295. Geekbench’s single-core test has similar results as well. But the Edge 50 has a much higher multi-core score on Geekbench at 3,048 (compared to Nothing’s 2,203) suggesting it would be better at handling heavy tasks.
Motorola Edge 50 vs Nothing Phone (2a) Plus: cameras
The Motorola Edge 50 and Nothing Phone (2a) Plus feature 50MP main cameras with different sensors, which should produce good photos on both ends. The Phone (2a) Plus has a 50MP ultra-wide camera as opposed to the 13MP on the Edge 50. It’s, however, missing a telephoto lens so you should get better zoomed-in photos without losing detail on the Edge 50.
The Nothing Phone (2a) Plus boasts a better 50MP front camera than the Edge 50’s 32MP sensor. The Motorola Edge 50’s camera performance is yet to be tested but the Phone (2a) Plus showed excellent results in well-lit environments. Low light is a struggle with the quality diminishing but not to an unbearable extent.
Motorola Edge 50 vs Nothing Phone (2a) Plus: Software, battery
Both phones run the latest Android 14 with their custom UI layered on top. With the Edge 50, you get a near-stock Android experience, while the Phone (2a) Plus gives you some sleek customisation options. When it comes to support, Nothing offers 3 years of Android updates and 4 years of security patches. Motorola, however, will provide only 2 years of software updates and 3 years of security patches.
The two phones also pack a 5,000mAh battery so you should get around the same battery life. The Edge 50 offers 68W fast charging, 15W wireless, and 5W reverse wireless support. The Phone (2a) Plus has a slightly slower 50W charging and 5W reverse wired charging support. It doesn’t have wireless charging support.
Conclusion
Based on this comparison, the Motorola Edge 50 seems to be a better choice in key areas. Its limitations are a single 8GB + 256GB variant and shorter software support. Otherwise, the Edge 50 has more to offer than the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus. We should know better once we review the Motorola Edge 50 but with the benchmark results and specifications, it offers more value for money.
