Realme 13 Pro+ camera overview: AI photography and more

Realme is set to launch its new numeric-series smartphones in India, named the Realme 13 Pro Series 5G. This series succeeds the Realme 12 Pro series introduced earlier this year and comes with some meaningful upgrades in the camera department. The upcoming 13 Pro Series 5G features Hyperimage+ technology, touted as the industry’s first AI photography architecture. This advanced architecture combines flagship optics with both on-device and cloud-based AI image editing algorithms to significantly enhance the visual quality of photos and videos.

Realme took 91mobiles to Thailand to try out the photography prowess of the Realme 13 Pro+, which marks the debut of Sony’s latest LYT sensor.

Realme 13 Pro+ camera specs

The Realme 13 Pro+ is equipped with the industry-first 50MP Sony LYT701 sensor main camera that also supports OIS. This is complemented by a 50MP Sony LYT-600 periscope telephoto sensor, supporting 3x optical zoom. The sensors come with TUV Rheinland High-Resolution Camera Certification, promising superior image quality and performance.

Once the images are captured, you’ll notice the Realme 13 Pro+ AI algorithm, known as Hyperimage+ technology, coming into effect. The technology ensures that the images reflect true light and shadows with smooth transitions.

Camera preview

The cameras were put to test across different scenarios in the city of Pattaya, Thailand. While we will reserve our judgement on the Realme 13 Pro+ cameras for the full review (stay tuned for that), here are some snippets for you to preview.

Regardless of the lighting challenges, the Realme 13 Pro+ performed admirably. The results were particularly impressive, with sharp images in daylight, featuring near-accurate colour representation and a decent dynamic range. Details were well-preserved in shadowy areas too.

The 13 Pro+ AI combines multiple lenses and large sensors, which are essential for capturing high-quality images, with an editing framework to enhance the visual quality of photos and videos.

Besides this on-device AI algorithm, the Realme 13 Pro+ also features AI Pure Bokeh that identifies the foreground, midground, and background in an image to perform pixel-level segmentation of objects for realistic portraits. Additionally, AI Natural Skin Tone enhances the natural appearance of various skin tones, and the cloud-based AI image editing utilises AI Ultra Clarity (currently in beta) to overcome the physical constraints of the camera hardware and enhance low-resolution images.

These were just some of the images we captured using the Realme 13 Pro Plus camera system. We’ll have more to share in our detailed review once the phone goes official in India on July 30th. We will also know more about the Realme 13 Pro+ prices and availability details during the launch event. The handset will come in a Monet-inspired design with its rear camera module similar to a watch dial. There will be three colour variants of the smartphone, namely Monet Gold, Monet Purple, and Emerald Green. The latter features a vegan leather back, whereas the other two boast a glass back.
