CMF by Nothing’s maiden smartphone, Phone 1 (review), has been launched in India at a competitive price point within the sub-Rs 20,000 segment. Besides its intriguing customisable design, the CMF Phone 1 is the world’s first smartphone with the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 SoC. It is a capable chipset, but is it good enough to outperform the MediaTek 7200 SoC on the iQOO Z9 (review)? We aim to find out in this performance comparison.

The CMF Phone 1 achieves a respectable AnTuTu score of 6,42,187, but it falls short of the iQOO Z9’s impressive score of 7,28,534. The iQOO smartphone wins all sub-tests of AnTuTu, namely CPU, GPU, and UX, except for MEM. The CMF Phone 1 achieves a superior MEM score, ensuring faster memory performance than its counterpart. For faster and better graphics performance, the iQOO Z9 should be your go-to choice.

Geekbench

In Geekbench, the iQOO Z9 outperforms the CMF Phone 1 in the single-core test but lags in the multi-core test. This suggests that the iQOO smartphone is better suited for applications that are lightly threaded and rely on single-core processing. Conversely, the CMF Phone 1 excels in handling heavily threaded applications that benefit from multiple cores.

CPU Throttle test

Geekbench and AnTuTu benchmarks may not fully reflect smartphone performance under heavy load. Therefore, the CPU throttle test, conducted with the Burnout app, provides a better assessment. The CMF Phone 1 experiences a 58.2 percent performance reduction from its peak, whereas the iQOO Z9 throttles even further (56.3 percent to be exact).

Gaming

Moving from synthetic benchmark numbers to real-world performance, we tested three games—BGMI, Call of Duty, and Real Racing 3—on both devices using similar graphics settings and environments. The CMF Phone 1 demonstrates superior thermal management, with an average temperature increase of 4.86 degrees after each half-hour gaming session. In comparison, the iQOO Z9 showed a slightly higher average temperature rise of 5.6 degrees (approx). The average frame per second (fps) for the smartphones remained on par with each other while playing the games.
