Top 11 Apple WatchOS 11 features announced at WWDC 2024
Apple announced the WatchOS 11 update for its smartwatches at WWDC 2024 stage. It calls this release the “world’s most advanced wearable operating system” and has laid out several features and improvements to warrant this claim. Let’s see what these new WatchOS 11 features are and when can you expect to get them on your Apple watches.
11 new WatchOS 11 features
Training load
Training load gives a visual representation of strain on the body from workouts over the last 7 days compared to the last 28 days. Each workout’s intensity will be measured by effort rating on a scale from 1-10. It will consider your age, height, weight, and workout data like GPS, heart rate, and elevation to estimate this rating. You can also change or manually enter this rating.
Vitals app
The Vitals app shows you health metrics like heart rate, respiratory rate, wrist temperature, sleep duration, and blood oxygen. It analyses these and if any of the metrics are out of their usual range, you will be informed through a notification. The app will even prognose the likely causes for this like illness, alcohol consumption, elevation, etc.
Pause Activity Rings
Apple’s Activity Ring system of health tracking can be overwhelming at times as it urges you to stick to the routine without a miss. Starting WatchOS 11, if you are not well or are out on a vacation or something, you can pause the Activity Rings and take a day off. Well, you can pause it for a day, week, month, or more.
You can also set different training goals for different days.
Better pregnancy support
Female users can see their gestational age on the Cycle Tracking app on Apple Watch. They can also log symptoms of health concerns during pregnancy in this app.
More workout modes
WatchOS 11 brings support for Soccer, American Football, Australian Football, Outdoor Hockey, Lacrosse, Downhill Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, Snowboarding, Golf, Outdoor Rowing, and more sports activities.
You can set custom interval-based workout sets for Pool Swims and a new Up Next workout view tells you what to do next.
Improved widgets stack and Live Activities
You get new widgets for Shazam, Photos, and Distance in the widgets stack. The stack can auto-organise and show widgets based on factors like time, date, location, and your daily routines. For example, the severe weather widget will appear ahead of a thunderstorm.
Live Activities comes to Apple Watch and it can show you a countdown for ticketed events in the Apple Wallet.
Smarter Photos watch face
Apple Watch can suggest to you the best photo of yours that can be set as a watch face. It even gives you an idea of how it would look.
Check In
You can set a Check In intimation for your trusted contacts if you are out somewhere. You can access it within the Messages app on the Apple Watch.
Translate app
You get to translate 20 supported languages on the Apple Watch. The translate widget widget appears automatically on the screen when you travel to a foreign country with a different language.
Summarized iPhone notifications
A summary of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max notifications will be sent to the Apple Watch running on WatchOS 11. This will be working on new iPhones.
Tap to Cash
Simply bring an Apple Watch (running WatchOS 11 or later) close to another Apple Watch or iPhone to send or receive cash between the devices.
WatchOS 11 availability
WatchOS 11 developer beta is available now to Apple Developer Program members. The public beta will roll out next month and the stable release will come out in fall, 2024.
