Alleged Nothing Phone (2a) test unit reveals design and specifications
Nothing is reportedly working on a new mid-range phone, reportedly dubbed the Nothing Phone (2a). The phone has started appearing online where it received the BIS certification. Tipster Yogesh Brar claims to have seen the prototype of the phone and revealed some key design elements. He has also shared the images of the PVT (production validation test) unit.
Separately, Dylan Roussel, an Android app developer on X (formerly Twitter), has shared an animation video showcasing the Nothing Phone (2a) via schematics and the chipset details.
Nothing Phone (2a) prototype
- Yogesh says the Nothing Phone (2a) in a post on X says that he has seen the prototype of the phone.
- The images of PVT units show the phone all covered up but reveal the ‘About Phone’ section and the rear design.
- As per the images, the handset will be equipped with a centre-positioned punch-hole cutout to house the selfie camera and flat edges.
- The rear of the phone will sport dual cameras, which will be placed horizontally instead of vertically like the other two Nothing phones.
- The Glyph LED lights are hidden under the case but the schematic animation video shows the design.
- Yogesh says the design elements will be borrowed from Nothing Phone (1) and Phone (2).
Nothing Phone (2a) specifications (tipped)
- The PVT images reveal the Nothing Phone (2a) will sport a 6.7-inch AMOLED display, probably with a 120Hz refresh rate.
- The processor section is hidden but rumours are rife that it would be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 SoC.
- The chipset could be paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage but there might be other options at launch.
- The handset is likely to boot Nothing OS 2.5 out of the box.
- There could be a 16MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture.
- The phone might have a 50MP primary camera and a 50MP ultrawide sensor.
- The battery section mentions 1,000mAh but this is just a placeholder.
- The Phone (2a) could house the largest battery cell on any Nothing phone with a 4,920mAh battery.
- The handset is likely to boot Android 14 out of the box.
Nothing Phone (2) animation
- The animation video shows the Phone (2a) also retains symmetrical bezels around the screen and this should elevate the viewing experience.
- The rear panel has dual cameras placed horizontally in the centre, probably in a circular housing.
- This is a fresh new design compared to the vertical camera placements at the top-left corner.
- We also see three LED glyphs surrounding the camera island and the arrangement of these also looks fresh.
- Dylan Roussel says the Nothing Phone (2a) will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 chipset paired with Mali-G610 MP4 GPU.
The Nothing Phone (2a) might debut around MWC 2024, which could be around February. We should know more details about the phone soon. Yogesh says the Nothing Phone (2) could be priced between Rs 25,000- Rs 30,000 in India.
