Google redesigns Android logo ahead of Android 14 release
Google has revamped the Android logo including the text and the green robot, ahead of the Android 14 stable rollout next month. This new Android 3D logo is in line with the Material You theme and is a departure from the 2019 logo in several respects.
Android logo 2023 changes
- Casing: Starting with the text, the first letter in Android, i.e., alphabet A is now uppercase. It was all lowercase previously.
- Font weight: The Android logo has a bolder font. In other words, the font weight has increased.
- Green robot: The Android robot logo (also called Bugdroid) is now in 3D, has more curves, more dimensions, a lot more character, and looks more personified. Google shows off its entire body, unlike a floating head in the last version.
Google’s logic behind the new Android 2023 logo
Google says this new Android logo complements the “Google brand palette”, and is “adaptable”. Here’s what they mean:
With this new logo, Google is trying to bring Android stylisation closer to Google’s. Differently put, this logo looks similar to the Google logo.
It also shares the playful and goofy theme of the Google brand.
As for the adaptability trait, Google says the bugdroid can easily switch between digital and real-life environments. This means it can adopt different looks depending on the occasion. We can see it in furry attire, a multi-coloured look, and more in the promo video.
When and where can we see this Android logo update?
Later this year, the new Android logo will start appearing on Android devices and other places. Perhaps, the reportedly late Android 14 stable update could feature this logo and so does the Pixel 8 series, Pixel Watch 2, and other upcoming Google products. We may not have to wait long as the big Google event is set to take place on October 4th. So, stay tuned.
