Honda patents two new electric scooters in India with 80km range, 25 kmph top speed
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt Ltd has filed patents for two new electric scooters which go by the name, ‘Dax e:’ and ‘Zoomer e:’. These new electric scooters look more rudimentary and seem to be aimed at last-mile delivery agents. The Dax e: and Zoomer e: electric scooters offer a range of up to 80 km and have a top speed of just 25 kmph, which qualify them as low-speed vehicles.
Honda Dax e:, Zoomer e: electric scooters
Honda’s Dax e: and Honda Zoomer e: electric scooters are unique and quirky-looking machines that are aimed at customers looking for practicality. Both scooters look utilitarian and offer a single seat. These electric scooters rely on a Bosch-sourced hub motor that propels the scooter to a limited top speed of 25kmph. This could help these EVs qualify as low-speed electric scooters which do not need registration and are exempted from road tax.
The Honda Dax e” gets a high-set handlebar, single circular headlamp, telescopic front suspension, disc brakes up front, alloy wheels, a tubular spine, single seat, and a battery pack housed underneath. The Honda Zoomer e: gets a chunky-looking external frame, two circular headlamps, alloy wheels, disc brakes and dual-sided rear coil spring suspension. Both electric scooters offer a claimed range of 80km per charge.
While Honda is looking to launch its first electric scooter in India, it is yet to be seen if the Honda Dax e: and Honda Zoomer e: actually make it here. Honda has already lined up the Honda Activa Electric for the Indian market that is expected to debut in 2024. The Honda Activa Electric will be based on the outgoing Petrol-powered Honda Activa and will compete with the likes of Ola S1 Air, Ather 450X, and TVS iQube.
