The new battery technology is being developed by Samsung SDI, the R&D wing at the Korean tech company which is responsible for battery technologies. Samsung SDI is on a quest to develop a new battery that could offer more energy storage capacity in the same footprint (via The Elec). The company aims to achieve this by deriving the battery stacking technology that is currently in use for making Gen 5 batteries for EVs. This new technology, when miniaturised for use in smartphones and tablets, would be able to expand capacity by as much as 10 percent within the same footprint.
