Apple WWDC 2023 dates announced: iOS 17, Mixed Reality Headset, new Mac Pro expected
Apple has finally announced the WWDC 2023 dates. The brand’s annual event will commence on June 5th, 2023 and will end on June 9th. Though Apple is yet to reveal as to what all its annual developer event will have in store, speculations are rife that the brand will unveil iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS 14, a new Mac Pro, and its first-ever Mixed-Reality headset. Let’s take a look at the official announcement for the upcoming WWDC 2023 event and find out what all we can expect to happen during the same.
WWDC 2023: Here’s what to expect
The WWDC 2023 poster was released by Apple last night, alongside the event timelines. The poster doesn’t say much, save for the multi-coloured semi-circles, which could be hinting at the new Mac Pro, which is long rumoured to launch during the WWDC 2023. As said earlier, Apple has not officially revealed the products and software that would be introduced during the event, but there are already several names that have popped up as part of rumours.
For starters, Apple is expected to announce its latest software for its portfolio of devices, thereby meaning that we can expect iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS 14, new watchOS, and new tvOS to be announced during WWDC 2023. Moving on, Apple is tipped to launch an updated version of the Mac Pro with an Apple Silicon chip, which might not come with major design changes, but the update will primarily be focused on the transition of the Mac Pro to the Apple Silicon architecture.
Lastly, we can expect Apple to showcase its long-awaited Mixed-Reality headset during the WWDC 2023. The headset is said to come with both Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality capabilities with an option to switch modes with a digital crown-like control knob. The headset will reportedly feature an external battery pack, which the user will have to wear on their waist.
Speaking of the display, the headset is said to feature a couple of 4K micro-OLED displays. The headset will likely be powered by Apple’s in-house silicon chips. Lastly, the headset is said to feature gesture-based controls and will not have any sort of physical controller. It will, instead, rely upon more than a dozen cameras, which will be able to read facial expressions, eye movements, and body movements, per reports.
While the software announcements and the new Mac Pro are more than likely to be unveiled during WWDC 2023, the MR headset is still a long shot, and even though we hope it becomes a reality, for now, readers must take things with a slight grain of salt, as the headset, so far, is more or less an urban legend, when it comes to the Apple ecosystem
