iPhone 14 launch price may be lower than that of iPhone 13: Report
iPhone 14 series launch is just a week from now and we might witness the unveiling of at least three models but there are speculations there will be a fourth model as well. Rumours and reports indicate that there will be some notable upgrades this year, mostly to the design of the Pro variants and some minor yet key upgrades to the standard iPhone 14. This in turn automatically makes one believe that the prices will be higher than the previous generation aka iPhone 13, which started at $799, considering the increased component costs. However, a new report suggests otherwise.
Earlier Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo says the average selling price increase will be 15 percent this year. The standard iPhone 14 is said to remain at $799, the rumoured iPhone 14 Max is said to cost $899, and both Pro models are expected to get a $100 price increase. This means the standard Pro would cost $1,099, while the Pro Max will cost $1,199. But a report suggests otherwise.
iPhone 14 series price hike
Market intelligence company, TrendForce says that in light of a tough economy and declining smartphone market, it expects Apple to keep it safe with smaller increases. Upgrades such as starting memory capacity increasing to LPDDR5 6GB and 256GB, primary camera moving up to 48MP, Face ID design, and more are expected to raise beginning prices.
However, under the rising global inflation and foreign exchange rates, Apple is expected to adopt a more safe pricing strategy so this won’t be a reason that affects the sales performance. For this reason, the firm predicts a more modest iPhone 14 price increase, with starting prices of:
- iPhone 14: $749
- iPhone 14 Max: $849
- iPhone 14 Pro: $1,049
- iPhone 14 Pro Max: $1,149
This pricing looks fair considering the minor upgrades to the non-Pro versions and some notable improvements to the high-end versions. For the first time, Apple will have a model — the iPhone 14 Max for those wanting a large 6.7-inch display and don’t want to spend a fortune on the Pro Max model. While this is good news, Apple will levy the large display size costs.
Moving to Pro models, the primary camera sensor will be boosted from 12MP to 48MP. There are also rumours that Apple might add an 8K video recording for the first time. There are rumours the base variant might get 256GB of storage variant and dump the 128GB version. The Pro variants might also get satellite communication capabilities and lastly, the pill-shaped hole punch design.
