  • Battery temperatures above 40 degrees and CPU temperatures over 60 degrees Celcius reported by some users
  • OnePlus responds by saying intensive gaming over an extensive period can result in high temperatures

The OnePlus 10R went on sale in India yesterday after being launched late last month. The device, which is known as the OnePlus Ace in China is already being delivered to customers in China. First impressions from users suggest that the device is facing overheating issues, as reported by a Chinese news outlet. The user who complained of overheating on the OnePlus Ace on Chinese social networking site Weibo said that the device was too hot to hold in his hand after he had gamed for an hour.

Other users complained of similar issues, prompting a hashtag trend on Weibo which, when translated from Mandarin to English, meant “OnePlus Phones So Hot That It Burns Hands.” OnePlus has officially responded to the overheating claims.

OnePlus Ace overheating issues reported in China

The OnePlus 10R, which is sold as the OnePlus Ace in China, has started shipping to its customers. However, initial impressions indicate heating issues on the device as reported by Sina Finance, a mainstream Chinese news outlet. Its report talks about a OnePlus Ace customer, a Weibo user, who complained about heating issues on the device. The thermal mismanagement of the device reportedly makes the device uncomfortable to hold in hand.

The problem was posted on Weibo, where the user points out that the battery temperature had reached 43.7 degrees Celsius while the CPU was at 46.5 degrees Celsius after just one hour of gaming. Later, another Weibo user joined the conversation and complained about even higher temperatures. The second user suggested a battery temperature of 44.6 degrees Celsius and CPU temperatures had reached 60.4 degrees Celsius.

The cases have been reported by many users and hence don’t qualify as standalone cases. Multiple users joined the conversation and later a hashtag that read “OnePlus Phones So Hot That It Burns Hands”, when translated from Mandarin to English, was found to be trending.

OnePlus’s response on overheating

OnePlus had later reached out to Sina Finance for a public reply and had stated that the user in question had been playing Geshin Impact, a resource-demanding game, for an hour. OnePlus also pointed out that heating issues recorded during extensive periods of gaming are common and are considered normal. According to the company, this will not affect the everyday performance of the device.

The OnePlus 10R features a 120Hz AMOLED display, Dimensity 8100 Max chipset, up to 12GB RAM and 256GB of storage, 5G, dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and runs on ColourOS 12.1 on top of Android 12. The OnePlus 10R range starts at Rs 38,999 for the 8GB+128GB model and will be available for purchase on Amazon and the OnePlus websites.
