Google Pixel 6A, Pixel Watch launch reportedly delayed to July, here’s why
Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are Google’s current flagships and there have been multiple reports suggesting the company is working on a cheaper priced, Google Pixel 6A for some time. The handset was initially expected to debut around May at the I/O conference but fresh reports suggest the Mountain View giant is facing supply chain and chip shortage issues. This, in turn, is said to have delayed the launch to a further date — around July. Jon Prosser says while the Pixel Watch is currently on track for May 26th, there are chances its launch is also delayed further. This comes after the Google Pixel 6A and Pixel Watch surfaced in a US carrier inventory system, that suggested the launch could be imminent.
The leak suggested the Google Pixel 6A would come in three colours: Black, White, and Green and there will only be a 128GB model. The Google Pixel 6A is expected to be powered by the same Tensor GS101 chip that is present in the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. It could be that sharing the SoC between three models at the same time could be an issue considering the chip shortage is still prevalent.
As for the Pixel Watch, it was initially expected to launch in May but sources indicate the Pixel Watch too will be delayed, probably to July. According to earlier leaks, it is said to have a codename “rohan” and it will be offered in 3 colours: grey, black, and gold.
Google Pixel 6A specifications (expected)
Talking about the specifications, the handset is said to sport a 6.2-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and an in-display fingerprint scanner. It is said to come in two options: 6GB/8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The phone is likely to run Android 12 OS out of the box.
Moving to optics, the Google Pixel 6a will use a sensor that is seen on earlier Pixel phones. It is said to ship with a 12MP Sony IMX363 main sensor and a 12.2MP ultra-wide lens. The phone is tipped to get an 8MP snapper on the front for selfies and video chats. A 4,500mAh battery with 20W+ fast charging support will fuel the phone. Since these are leaked specifications based on leaks and rumours, we suggest you take them with a pinch of salt.
