Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 2 cover display sizes tipped
Samsung has made it abundantly clear that its range of foldable smartphones is here to stay. So much so that we’re hearing reports that the massively-popular Galaxy Note series may be discontinued in 2021 in favour of Samsung’s foldable lineup. Samsung seems to have at least three foldable phones in the pipeline for next year, which includes the Galaxy Z Flip 2 and Galaxy Z Fold 3. A report from The Elec sheds some light on some key Galaxy Z Flip 2 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 specs. For starters, the former is expected to feature a 3-inch cover display, while the latter will sport a 4-inch cover screen.

It is quite puzzling as to why Samsung is planning to go for a smaller 4-inch secondary screen on the Galaxy Z Fold 3, considering its predecessor — the Galaxy Z Fold 2 — had a much larger 6.3-inch cover display. Samsung may want to shift focus away from the secondary screen and encourage users to interact with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 in its tablet form, but this is mere speculation at this point. Another reason for the downgrade could be due to the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s alleged S Pen support, which will undoubtedly increase the foldable’s manufacturing costs.
The Galaxy Z Flip 2, on the other hand, will get a larger 3-inch secondary display. It will be over two times the size of its Galaxy Z Flip’s 1.1-inch screen, making it a lot easier for users to interact with it. The increased screen real estate will also allow users to get more done via the secondary screen thanks to One UI 3.0’s lock screen widgets. Samsung is reportedly working on a Galaxy Z Flip Lite too, so it’ll be interesting to see what that has to offer in terms of screen size.
