Honor 200 vs Motorola Edge 50 Pro camera comparison: which mid-ranger has more versatile camera?
The Honor 200 launched recently in India and carries a starting price of Rs 34,999. This puts the phone in an extremely competitive mid-range segment where it directly competes with popular offerings from all major brands. One such phone is the Motorola Edge 50 Pro (review), which is one of the most popular smartphones in this price bracket.
Today, we’ll be doing a camera comparison between both devices to find out which smartphone has better cameras. We captured images from both phones in different scenarios to assess their camera capabilities. Check out the results below:
Here are the camera specifications of both devices:
Honor 200 | Motorola Edge 50 Pro |
50MP OIS primary camera with f/1.95 aperture | 50MP OIS primary camera with f/1.4 aperture |
50MP OIS telephoto camera with f/2.4 aperture | 10MP telephoto camera with f/2.0 aperture |
12MP ultrawide camera with f/2.2 aperture | 13MP ultrawide camera with f/2.2 aperture |
50MP front camera with f/2.1 aperture | 50MP front camera with f/1.9 aperture |
Daylight
Comparing the daylight shots of both phones, there’s some differences visible right away. The Motorola Edge 5 Pro has very punchy colours in its image, while the Honor 200 maintains a more balanced colour profile. The dynamic range is slightly better in the Motorola Edge 50 Pro’s image compared to the Honor 200.
The images appear quite sharp, but once you zoom in, there’s a slight level of noise in the former’s image, while the Honor 200 manages to maintain better clarity. The round ends in a tie.
Winner: Tie
Ultrawide
The ultrawide cameras on both devices are inaccurate in terms of colour accuracy. The Honor 200 washes out the colours, while the Motorola Edge 50 Pro oversaturates the image. The Motorola Edge 50 Pro takes sharper images with a higher detail level compared to the Honor 200. The Motorola Edge 50 Pro thus wins the round.
Winner: Motorola Edge 50 Pro
Portrait
Both phones capture appealing portrait images with good edge detection and bokeh effects. The Honor 200’s image has more accurate skin colour reproduction, though it smooths out the facial details. The Motorola Edge 50 Pro oversaturates the skin tone but preserves the skin texture. I personally prefer the more natural-looking image by Honor 200, but the choice boils down to user preferences.
Winner: Tied
Selfies
Both phones use a 50MP front camera to capture images. The Motorola Edge 50 Pro’s image follows the same logic as its rear camera, with saturated colours. The image appears quite sharp, with a satisfactory level of facial details. The Honor 200’s image, in comparison, is a tad bit overexposed, which makes the image appear hazy. While the subject’s skin colour is closer to reality, the Honor 200 fails to capture as many details as its counterpart.
Winner: Motorola Edge 50 Pro
Low light (night mode off)
The Motorola Edge 50 Pro has much better clarity, and the colours are more faithful to the original scene, but there are some issues with lens flare in the image. The phone still comes out in the lead compared to the Honor 200.
Winner: Motorola Edge 50 Pro
Low light (night mode on)
Verdict
The Motorola Edge 50 Pro wins the camera comparison against the Honor 200. Its more versatile cameras outperform the Honor 200 in ultrawide and low-light images. If you’re looking for a capable camera phone under Rs 35,000, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro is the better option.
While the Honor 200’s cameras are not as good as the Motorola Edge 50 Pro’s, it still offers stiff competition in key areas like daylight photography and portrait shots. The Honor 200 isn’t far behind in low-light photography either, and it is likely to improve with future OTA updates. If you primarily capture images during the day, the Honor 200 is a choice worth considering.
