Samsung Galaxy M55 vs Honor X9b battery comparison: which phone offers a better battery life?
Samsung’s M series smartphones are one of the most popular mid-range phones out there as they offer premium features at affordable price points. Samsung unveiled the Galaxy M55 earlier this month with features like 45W fast charging, 50MP primary and front cameras, and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset. Today, we’re doing a battery comparison between the Samsung Galaxy M55 and the similarly priced Honor X9b to find out which smartphone offers better battery backup and charging speeds.
Before we begin, here are the battery specifications of the two smartphones:
Samsung Galaxy M55 | Honor X9b |
5,000mAh battery, 45W fast charging support | 5,800mAh battery, 35W fast charging support |
PCMark benchmark
First up, we compared the PCMark battery score for each of the smartphones to gauge their potential battery backup. The Galaxy M55 lasted nearly 13 hours, while the Honor X9b performed marginally better. The Honor X9b wins the around, albeit with a very slight margin.
Winner: Honor X9b
Video streaming
Next, we set both smartphones to stream the same 30-minute video on Youtube at 4K resolution at 50 percent brightness to gauge the battery drain. Both Samsung Galaxy M55 and Honor X9b registered a battery drain of 5 percent each and thus the streaming test ended in a tie.
Samsung Galaxy M55 | Honor X9b |
Battery Drain: 5 percent | Battery Drain: 5 percent |
Winner: Tied
Gaming test
For our gaming test, we played BGMI and Real Racing 3 on both devices at a similar graphical preset to gauge the battery drain on each. After an hour of gaming on both smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy M55 registered a battery drain of 16 percent while the Honor X9b clocked a total drain of 13 percent. The Honor X9b won this round.
Winner: Honor X9bCharging speeds
Interestingly, both brands do not offer a compatible charger inside the retail box and the chargers need to be bought separately for each. The Galaxy M55 took roughly 64 minutes to go from 20 to 100 percent while the Honor X9b took a whopping 2.5 hours to achieve the same. The Galaxy M55 is the clear winner in the charging speed test.
Samsung Galaxy M55 | Honor X9b |
Charge time: 64 minutes | Charge time: 150 minutes |
Winner: Samsung Galaxy M55
Verdict
The Galaxy M55 5G and Honor X9b excel in different aspects regarding their battery performance. Given that the Honor X9b carries a larger 5,800mAh cell, the smartphone’s battery is more resilient to drainage than the Galaxy M55. Where the latter shines, however, is that it manages to offer a comparable battery output despite a smaller 5,000mAh cell and significantly faster charging speeds, which can sway a lot of potential buyers as charging speed is a very crucial metric.
The choice ultimately boils down to the user’s preferences and smartphone usage patterns, and both devices present a compelling choice in the sub-Rs 30,000 segment.
