Motorola Edge 50 Pro and iQOO Neo 9 Pro compared: which phone offers better value for money?

Motorola Edge 50 Pro launched in India last week as the company’s latest offering in the premium mid-range segment. The new Motorola phone has a lot to offer at an affordable price tag. While the Motorola Edge 50 Pro is an easy recommendation in the sub-Rs 35,000 segment, it does face some competition from phones like the iQOO Neo 9 Pro.

Motorola Edge 50 Pro vs iQOO Neo 9 Pro: design

Motorola Edge 50 Pro and iQOO Neo 9 Pro are quite distinct in terms of design. With the Motorola Edge 50 Pro, you get a premium, slim and curved design. It comes in three colour options: Black Beauty, Luxe Lavender, and Moonlight Pearl colour options. The phone also has a vegan leather finish, which not only adds to the aesthetics but offers a good grip as well.

The iQOO Neo 9 Pro, on the other hand, has flat edges and comes in a slim body too. It comes in two colour options: Fiery Red and Conqueror Black colours. The Fiery Red, in particular, has a dual-tone design making it look unique.

Design is always subjective but if we had to consider the price, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro offers a more premium look and feel.

Motorola Edge 50 Pro vs iQOO Neo 9 Pro: display

Motorola Edge 50 Pro comes with a 6.7-inch 1.5K pOLED curved display with a 144Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and 2,000 nits of peak brightness. The iQOO Neo 9 Pro comes with a 6.78-inch 1.5K AMOLED LTPO display with a 144Hz refresh rate, HDR 10+, and 3000 nits peak brightness. While both phones should offer almost the same display quality and performance, the iQOO Neo 9 Pro would be better outdoors since it has a higher brightness level, at least on paper.

Motorola Edge 50 Pro vs iQOO Neo 9 Pro: performance

Motorola Edge 50 Pro is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset paired with Adreno 720 GPU. It comes with up to 12GB LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB UFS 2.2 storage. iQOO Neo 9 Pro runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset paired with Adreno 730 GPU. This phone too has up to 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB storage.

Since performance can be determined only after thorough usage, the iQOO Neo 9 Pro would be more reliable, according to our review. The Motorola Edge 50 Pro isn’t for heavy usage as noted in our review, and is more for regular users.

It also has a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and a 13MP ultra-wide camera offering both macro and depth. For selfies, there’s a 50MP front camera. Both phones did well in our testing for camera performance but if we had to pick a winner, it would be the Motorola Edge 50 Pro as it offers a more versatile setup. The iQOO Neo 9 Pro misses out on a telephoto camera.

Motorola Edge 50 Pro vs iQOO Neo 9 Pro: battery, software

Motorola Edge 50 Pro packs a 4,500mAh battery with 125W TurboPower charging technology and 50W wireless charging. On the software front, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro runs Android 14 out-of-the-box with Hello UI layered on top, which together offers a near-stock Android experience.

With the iQOO Neo 9 Pro, you get a 5,160mAh battery with 120W fast charging support. The handset runs on the latest Android 14-based Funtouch OS 14 custom skin out of the box.

The iQOO Neo 9 Pro should get you more juice, and its fast charging is almost at par with the Edge 50 Pro. But if wireless charging is a priority then the Motorola Edge 50 Pro can be considered. It also offers a near-stock Android experience for those who prefer a clean UI.

Verdict

The iQOO Neo 9 Pro seems to take the lead in more areas than the Edge 50 Pro. But the latter has better cameras, clean UI and wireless charging. It’s also priced lower so if you’re looking for a well-packaged smartphone that looks premium then you can consider the Motorola Edge 50 Pro. But if gaming and other heavy-duty stuff is what you do, then you might want to go for the iQOO Neo 9 Pro.
