Realme 12 Pro+ vs OPPO Reno11 camera comparison: which is the better shooter under Rs 30k?

The Realme 12 Pro+ (review) and the OPPO Reno11 are the latest mid-range camera-focused smartphones with telephoto lenses. While the Realme 12 Pro+ boasts a 64MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, the Reno11 delivers 2x optical zoom with its relatively modest 32MP lens. We attempt to assess the difference this brings to the camera performance of the two smartphones in this Realme 12 Pro+ and OPPO Reno11 camera comparison.

Both smartphones are priced under Rs 30,000. Let’s look at their camera specifications before diving into the results.

Daylight

The Realme 12 Pro+ and OPPO Reno11 output 12.5MP images by default with their 50MP primary cameras. However, the images shot from the OPPO smartphone in daylight look more vibrant, crisp, and dynamic as opposed to its counterpart. Additionally, the texture feels much more authentic on the Reno11 than on the Realme 12 Pro+ especially when you look at the wall.

Winner: OPPO Reno11

Ultrawide

In ultra-wide shots, the Realme 12 Pro+ pulls off better results. It keeps the colours closer to reality, and the detail looks superior to that of the OPPO Reno11. The latter outputs slightly brighter results with a relatively low noise level, but then it misses out on capturing finer details, especially around the edges of the frame.

Winner: Realme 12 Pro+

Telephoto

Even though the Realme 12 Pro+ supports up to 3x optical zoom, we captured the above shots using only 2x, which matches the maximum optical zooming capabilities of the OPPO Reno11. There is a colour shift when switching to a telephoto lens from the primary on the OPPO smartphone, and there is also a noticeable loss in details. The Realme 12 Pro+ shots are relatively crisp and vibrant. The colours are slightly boosted, but they remain faithful to reality.

Winner: Realme 12 Pro+

Portrait

In portraits, both phones exhibit slight inconsistency with edge detection. However, if I must choose a winner, it would be the Realme 12 Pro+. The handset provides less warping with its primary camera than its counterpart and preserves more facial details. The OPPO Reno11 tends to smoothen out the details.

Winner: Realme 12 Pro+

Selfie

When it comes to selfies, the OPPO Reno11 front camera outputs images with near-accurate skin tones. The facial details are also better than the Realme 12 Pro+. The latter smoothens out the facial details and also leans towards cooler tones.

Winner: OPPO Reno11

Low light

Interestingly, in low light, the Realme 12 Pro+ detects the scene and turns on night mode automatically whereas the OPPO Reno11 doesn’t. The latter requires you to switch to night mode from the ‘more’ tab on the camera app for those long exposure shots. Without long exposure, the OPPO Reno11 seems to be doing a better job. The handset produces brighter results, thereby offering more details than the Realme smartphone.

Winner: Realme 12 Pro+

Night mode

With night mode, the Realme 12 Pro+ pulls things back. The exposure to details looks underwhelming on both smartphones, but the image captured by the Realme device is more appealing. This is due to minimal light flare and brighter results compared to the OPPO Reno11.

Winner: Realme 12 Pro+

Verdict

To sum it up for you, the Realme 12 Pro+ emerges as the superior shooter, particularly in ultrawide, telephoto, low light, and night mode photography. However, it loses a few brownie points in the selfie department where the OPPO Reno11 shines with better skin tones and facial detailing. Therefore, if you prioritise versatility and overall camera performance, the Realme 12 Pro+ seems like a worthwhile investment.
