Top 5 games releasing in January 2024: Last of Us Part II: Remastered, Tekken 8, and more
A new year is upon us; for gamers, we have another great year of gaming ahead of us. We have some awesome new games like Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, Hades II and more lined up for us. But let’s take things one step at a time and start by focusing our attention on right now. The month of January has some big names lined up for launch, so let’s take a look at some of them.
Tekken 8
Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
Release date: January 26
Last year, we saw the release of new entries in the Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter series. So it was high time that Tekken stepped into the ring as well. The latest entry in the long-running series promises more of the same 3D brawler-style action that has been the hallmark of the series.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Switch
Release date: January 18
After almost a decade, the Prince of Persia series is back and has returned to its roots. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a 2.5D side scroller with Metroidvania-esq elements which is quite different from the last few games in the series. However, the protagonist is still as nimble and acrobatic as ever with jumps, flips and even special abilities.
Last of Us Part II: Remastered
Platforms: PS5
Release date: January 19
So how long can a developer wait before announcing a remaster? Well, Naughty Dog is pushing it by releasing a remaster of a game released in 2020 with the release of The Last Us Part II: Remaster. Expect better-quality graphics, high refresh rates, new game modes and better integration with the PS5’s DualSense controller.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC
Release date: January 26
The ‘Like a Dragon’ name seems to be a fitting move for the Yakuza series as the latter’s primary protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu is slowly stepping away from the role. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth might be the swansong for Kiryu while Ichiban Kasuga will step up as the main lead. Expect a serious, hard-hitting story, punctuated with zany side quests.
Bulletstorm VR
Platforms: PS5, PC, Quest
Release date: January 18
Bulletstorm is a criminally underrated FPS that was released back in 2011. The game offered top-notch gunplay but didn’t take itself too seriously. Bulletstory VR hopes to revitalise the series by bringing its brand of action to virtual reality!
