OPPO and Hasselblad co-develop HyperTone camera system, could debut in Find X7 series
At its annual photography forum keynote, OPPO announced the HyperTone camera system in partnership with Hasselblad. The company says this is an end-to-end solution following “Aesthetics”. We shall discuss what OPPO means by that. You will see the HyperTone aesthetics first in the OPPO Find X7 series and followed by the OPPO Reno 11 and OnePlus 12.
OPPO HyperTone aesthetics
OPPO is aiming for enhanced image quality and stylised experiences with the HyperTone camera system. This image pipeline includes the camera optics (hardware) computational photography engine (software), and the display which shows this HyperTone aesthetics (again hardware). OPPO calls the latter HyperTone ProXDR Display.
- Cameras: The company says the phone cameras would be able to capture “high image qualities for every focal length whether it’s day or night”.
- Processing engine: On the software side, there will be algorithms at work to tamp down artefacts. It will use 400 percent more computational power but reduce noise by 60 percent and as a result improve clarity by 30 percent. OPPO also emphasises its work on colour sampling, which has helped it allay issues like blooming using AI.
- ProXDR Display: The panel will clock a brightness of 12 million pixels, thus presenting “up to eight times more dynamic range” for a more realistic output. OPPO is also trying to make ProXDR compatible with Android 14‘s Ultra HDR standard.
The Hasselblad partnership also means unique filters and photography modes. One of these will be Hasselblad Portrait Mode with more accurate skin tones. OPPO says the camera app would avoid brightening and smoothening the face too much.
Another goodie waiting for you in the camera app would be Bokeh Flare Portrait for an optical out-of-focus effect.
OPPO Find X7 series: What’s expected
Cameras: On the back, there could be a 50MP LYT-900 primary sensor, a 50MP LYT-700 ultrawide shooter, and a 50MP LYT-700 periscope telephoto lens. On the front, you could get a 32MP selfie camera.
SoC and OS: The processing part could be taken care of by the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 chipset on the vanilla model and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 on the Pro model. On top of this, there could be Android 14-based ColorOS software.
Display: OPPO Find X7 Pro could come with a 2K display.
