Vivo X100 Pro tipped to feature iPhone 14-like satellite connectivity
Vivo‘s upcoming flagship lineup, the Vivo X100 series should be launching by the end of this year in its home country based on previous reports. As we wait for the brand to officially reveal these devices, new rumours from China indicate a major new safety and connectivity feature in the upcoming flagship device. Here’s what we know.
Vivo X100 Pro could feature Satellite Connectivity
Apple’s iPhone 14 series brought satellite connectivity to smartphones as a safety feature that can be used to communicate with emergency services in case someone is stranded in an area with no cell connectivity. Huawei went a step further to provide full mobile connectivity through satellite connection with its Huawei Mate 60 Pro device.
Vivo could now be joining the game with its upcoming Vivo X100 Pro flagship smartphone based on a Weibo post by WhyLab (via). The device, with model number V2309A, was spotted on MIIT certification with the listing stating two-way satellite connectivity. This should allow the phone to transmit and receive text, pictures, voice recordings or even videos without being in the range of a cellular and exclusive through a satellite connection.
This could be powered by a Unisoc V8821 chipset which was announced back in July. This is the chip which will handle the 5G non-terrestrial (NTN) technology while the device is expected to be powered by MediaTek Dimensity 9300 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. Reports from back in July hinted at Vivo being one of the partners of Unisoc for the development of this chip.
Vivo recently launched the Vivo V29 series in India which starts at Rs 32,999. The usual launch timeline suggests that the Vivo X100 series could come to India next year with a select number of models. The phones could however be revealed as soon as next month in China with a new 53MP main camera sensor and periscope zoom functionality.
