Qualcomm unveils flagship Snapdragon X Elite chipset for laptops
Qualcomm is promising “Best in class performance vs x86 systems” with its new Snapdragon X Elite chipset based on the 4nm fabrication process. This chipset, designed for personal computing devices such as laptops and 2-in-1s, is promising a “massive leap forward” with a “best-in-class CPU,” AI interfacing and is one of the most efficient PC processors. Here’s all you need to know about it.
Snapdragon X Elite: CPU, GPU, power efficiency and AI
Snapdragon X Elite features the Qualcomm Oryon 3.8GHz CPU with 12 high-performance cores and Dual-core boost (4.3GHz). Compared to an x86 processor from the likes of Intel and AMD (Qualcomm doesn’t specify), this processor delivers up to 2X better CPU performance. The 4.6 Teraflops Qualcomm Adreno GPU is said to be 2X faster and comes with triple UHD monitor support.
Snapdragon X Elite is also said to deliver “leading PC performance per watt” with 68 per cent less power consumption for the same peak performance. For AI features, the processor can run 13 Billion+ parameters on-device and can generate 30 tokens per second for 7B LLMs. It features 4.5X the AI NPU processing compared to competitors and is the first PC processor with an “Always-Sensing” ISP.
Snapdragon X Elite: connectivity and more
The chipset also supports 5G mmWave tech with peak download and upload speeds of 10Gbps and 3.5 Gbps, respectively. Wi-Fi 7 support is also present along with Bluetooth 5.4, enabling lossless audio transmission. It supports LPDDR5X RAM with up to 136GB/s bandwidth and SD v3.0, NVMe SSD over PCIe Gen 4 and UFS 4.0 standards for storage.
Snapdragon X Elite also supports up to a single 64MP or dual 32MP cameras along with 4K HDR video recording. The device can feature up to a UHD 120Hz on-device display and dual 5K 60Hz external displays. There’s also support for AV1 encoding and decoding for up to 4K HDR video streaming. Interface types include 3x USB-C with USB4 or 2x USB3.2 Gen2 or 1x eUSB2 ports.
