iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max being sold at Rs 28,000 above MRP by offline retailers: report

Highlights
  • The iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max are being sold at prices over and above their MRP by offline retailers in a few cities.
  • The iPhone 15 Pro officially starts at Rs 1,34,900 in India and goes up to Rs 1,84,900.
  • The iPhone 15 Pro Max price starts at Rs 1,59,900 and goes up to Rs 1,99,900.

The iPhone 15 series went on sale in India last week, with several customers seen waiting in long queues to buy the newly announced iPhones. This year, the iPhone 15 series price starts at Rs 79,900 for the base variant and goes up to Rs 1,99,900 for the Pro Max model. However, as per a report, the Pro models are being sold in the country at much higher prices due to higher demand, reaching a markup of almost Rs 28,000 over and above the MRP.

iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max see unofficial price surge

  • According to a News18 Tech report, various offline retail stores in Delhi and even tier-2 cities like Jaipur are selling the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max at prices higher than the official prices.
  • Retailers were charging a premium for the top-end iPhone Pro Max 256GB model in Natural Titanium, with prices approximately Rs 20,000 more than the official price of Rs 1,59,900.
  • For the iPhone 15 Pro, the price hike wasn’t as extreme as the Pro Max, but retailers were still asking for Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 extra, depending on the colour and storage capacity.
  • In Karol Bagh, New Delhi, one retailer quoted a price of Rs 1,51,000 for the iPhone 15 Pro 256GB in Titanium Blue, which is Rs 6,000 higher than the official price of Rs 1,44,900.
  • In Jaipur, a retailer in Ganpati Plaza, MI Road, listed the iPhone 15 Pro 256GB in Blue Titanium for Rs 8,000 more than the official price.
  • The report also mentioned an online seller in New Delhi who was selling both internationally sourced models and Indian stock at prices as much as Rs 28,000 above the official prices.
  • Furthermore, another retailer in Thane, Maharashtra, was advertising the iPhone 15 Pro Max 1TB variant for Rs 2,32,000, which is Rs 32,000 higher than the official price.
A similar situation was seen last year when the iPhone 14 series launched, but the supply was short that time due to COVID-19-related issues. This time, it’s purely based on high demand. Some retailers have even been forcing customers to buy accessories compulsorily, if they want an iPhone.
