Here’s what happens when you connect iPhone 15 to an Android phone via USB-C

Highlights
  • The iPhone 15 series comes with a USB-C port.
  • This not only brings universal charging but connectivity with other USB-C devices as well.
  • It also lets you connect the iPhone 15 to an Android phone.

Apple finally brought USB-C to iPhones with the iPhone 15 series as it bid goodbye to the Lightning port. This not only brings universal charging but faster charging at that, and faster data transfer as well. It will also let you connect the iPhone 15 to an Android phone but what exactly happens if you do that? Someone tried it, and here are the results.

Yes, you can now actually connect an iPhone to an Android phone via the USB-C port. The folks over at PetaPixel actually tried it out, and the results were interesting to say the least. The first thing that happened was the iPhone 15 charging the Pixel Fold. But this was possible the other way around too with the iPhone 15 charging from the Android phone’s battery. PetaPixel joked about how even till this day the iPhone and Android phone are still fighting by stealing power from each other.

For those unaware, this happens when you connect two devices via USB-C to USB-C cable. You usually get the option to enable charging the other device but in this case it just happened with no intimidation. Another thing that they tried was transferring data between the two devices but this was not possible.

This is just one possibility with the iPhone 15’s USB-C port as you can connect it to several other devices. The list includes Mac, iPad, AirPods Pro (2nd generation), external storage devices, and displays. Apple has also said that the iPhone 15 will be able to charge AirPods, Apple Watch, or any small device that supports USB Power Delivery at up to 4.5 watts.

While it does mention the possibility of data transfer with other computers that are USB-C compliant, it isn’t specified if another Android phone is compatible or not. You can find the detailed use cases of the iPhone 15’s USB-C port here.
