WhatsApp finally gets a Wear OS app
WhatsApp finally has a native Wear OS app for Android smartwatches. With a dedicated app, Wear OS users won’t have to be connected to a smartphone to text people on WhatsApp. The announcement was made by Mark Zuckerberg in the Meta channel on Instagram. The new app has started rolling out so it should reach users soon.

The new WhatsApp app will be available on smartwatches running Wear OS 3. Once you have this app on your Android watch, you won’t need to be connected to your phone to use it. It’s a smartwatch app so there’s limited functionality, but you’ll be able to use most of the important features.
With the Wear OS WhatsApp app, you can start new conservations directly from the smartwatch. You can also reply to messages and take calls on WhatsApp. In addition to text, you can also send voice messages, emoji, and quick replies through the Wear OS WhatsApp app. You can also see your recent chats on WhatsApp so it’s easier for you to open them on the app.
For those unaware, Wear OS is Google’s operating system for Android smartwatches. Google had first announced the Wear OS WhatsApp at its I/O conference in May. It had also launched a beta version of the app before launching the stable version.
When it comes to smartwatches running Wear OS, there’s a limited number of options as the others use their proprietary software. Smartwatches running Wear OS include the Samsung Galaxy Watch5, Galaxy Watch5 Pro, Galaxy Watch4, Galaxy Watch4 Classic, TicWatch Pro 5, Fossil Gen 6, and Michael Kors Gen 6 Bradshaw.
WhatsApp said it plans to bring the Wear OS app to more devices in the future. iPhone users still have to wait for a native WhatsApp app for their Apple Watch. But there are third-party apps that are available for WatchOS. These apps let you reply to messages, start new chats, send voice messages and more.
