Motorola Edge 40 vs Nothing Phone (1): Design, size and display

The Motorola Edge 40 and Nothing Phone (1) have very distinct looks which is tough to say for a lot of Android smartphones these days. With the Motorola Edge 40, you get a slim body with curved edges. The Nothing Phone (1) stands out for its design courtesy its back panel which is clad with white LED lights. The company calls it the ‘Glyph Interface’, and the lights have different patterns that you can customise according to your preference. 

The Motorola Edge 40 and Nothing Phone (1) measure almost the same but there’s a tiny bit of difference between the two. The Motorola Edge 40 measures 158.43 x 71.99 x 7.58 mm, while the Nothing Phone (1) is slightly bigger with 159.2 mm x 75.8 mm x 8.3 mm dimensions.

When it comes to the display specs, the Motorola Edge 40 has a 6.55-inch FHD+ pOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, and 360Hz touch sampling rate. With the Nothing Phone (1) you get a 6.55-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. It also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass protection.

Both the smartphones come with dual rear cameras and a single front camera. Starting with the Motorola Edge 40, there’s a 50MP primary camera, and a 13MP ultra-wide angle lens. It has features such as OIS, 4K UHD video recording support, Quad Pixel Technology, and a 120-degree field of view. For selfies, this smartphone has a 32 MP front camera with 4K UHD video recording, Dual Capture, and Auto Night Vision.

The Nothing Phone (1) sports a 50MP primary camera, and a 50MP ultra-wide angle lens. It is equipped with OIS and EIS image stabilisation, 4K recording at 30 fps, and HDR. On the Nothing Phone (1), it’s a 16 MP front camera with Live Photo, HD Portrait, and FHD video recording at 30 fps.

The Motorola Edge 40 is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8020 paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. Under the hood of the Nothing Phone (1) runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ processor paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. 

If we go strictly by what’s written on paper, the two chipsets are almost at par with each other in terms of performance. We haven’t reviewed the Moto Edge 40 yet so we can’t comment on it  but the Nothing Phone (1) turned out to be a decent performer according to our detailed review

Motorola Edge 40 vs Nothing Phone (1): Battery

The Motorola Edge 40 packs a 4,400mAh battery with 68W TurboPower fast charging and 15W wireless charging support. The smartphone is claimed to last for an entire day with just 10 minutes of charging.

The Nothing Phone (1) has a slightly bigger 4,500mAh battery but with 33W wired charging support. It is claimed to get fully charged in 70 minutes. The smartphone also supports 15W Qi wireless charging with dual charging support.
