Nothing Phone (2) confirmed to launch in July; battery capacity revealed

Highlights
  • Nothing Phone (2) is also confirmed to get the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset.
  • The device will get a slightly bigger battery compared to its predecessor.
  • Nothing Phone (2) is expected to launch in India.

Nothing Phone (2), one of the most anticipated smartphones this year, will launch in July, Carl Pei revealed this week. The second smartphone from Carl Pei’s startup has a lot riding on it as the Nothing Phone (1) did manage to create waves in the smartphone industry. Pei has so far confirmed the Nothing Phone (2) is coming this summer, and that it will be powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. In addition to confirming the launch timeline, Pei also confirmed the phone’s battery capacity.

Nothing Phone (2) battery details

Pei in an interview with Forbes revealed that the Nothing Phone (2) will pack a 4,700mAh battery. The charging details haven’t been revealed yet. In comparison to the Nothing Phone (1)’s 4,500mAh battery, this is a slight increase but with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, it would be an 80% increase in overall performance improvement over the last gen.

On choosing the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip instead of the Gen 2, Pei gave the reason that this would make the Nothing Phone (2) remain accessible which is probably hinting at the price range for the smartphone. The Nothing Phone (1) sits at a comfortable spot in terms of pricing where it isn’t as expensive as the premium affordable smartphones but not too cheap either.

Going with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip would make the Nothing Phone (2) remain accessible.

Nothing Phone (2) launch timeline details

Just earlier this month, it was announced that the Nothing Phone (2) will launch this summer. Pei has now revealed that the launch will take place in July and it’s going to be a global release. This means that the Nothing Phone (2) will launch in several countries at the same time so it should come to India soon.

In the interview, Pei also shared how the Nothing Phone (1) was a risky but successful launch as it confirmed that people are excited about something new in the Android smartphone market. He also pointed out how Apple doesn’t have a “really exciting alternative out there right now, especially for the younger generation.”

With the Nothing Phone (2), the company is most likely going ahead with the transparent design which was a big hit with the Nothing Phone (1). A very tiny teaser image of the phone also hints at this possibility.
