1. Will IPL matches be available to watch on Disney Plus Hotstar?

No, the TATA IPL 2023 will not stream on Disney Plus Hotstar. Jio Cinema is the exclusive live streaming partner of the tournament. The Mukesh Ambani-backed Jio paid a whopping Rs 23,758 crore last year to acquire the digital rights of the TATA IPL 2023. This amount accounts for a total of 410 matches set to be played in the span of the next five years.

That said, Disney Plus Hotstar’s parent company Star still owns the TV rights to the franchise-based T20 tournament. The TATA IPL 2023 will be telecast on TV on Star Sports channels.

2. What are the new rules introduced in TATA IPL 2023?

The TATA IPL 2023 has three new rules:

  • Impact player – This allows IPL sides to make tactical substitutes with an ‘Impact Player’ coming into bad or bowl.
  • Playing XI after toss – Captains can now decide the playing XI based on whether they are batting or bowling first. Previously, the playing XI was pre-decided
  • Time penalty – BCCI has also introduced a time penalty for slow over-rate in IPL. If the fielding side fail to finish its overs in stipulated time, then the number of fielders outside 30 yards will be reduced.
