There have been rumours circulating for some time that Google is working on a new version of the Pixel Watch, and it appears that the watch will be released soon. According to a report by 9to5Google, the tech giant is planning to launch its new Pixel Watch 2 later this year, along with its upcoming Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones.

It’s been over three years since the development of the original Pixel Watch began, and rumours of the next iteration seem to be credible. At the I/O 2022, Google hinted at the Pixel Watch, and it is logical to assume that the company might provide some teasers of the Watch 2 at the I/O 2023 event, which is scheduled for May 10. At this point, there isn’t much information available about the Pixel Watch 2, aside from the fact that it will include some improvements.

The release of the Pixel Watch 2 will likely be met with excitement from smartwatch enthusiasts, as the original Pixel Watch was well-received and managed to put Google among the top 5 smartwatch producers in the market.

Google Pixel Watch 2 improvements

The Pixel Watch 2 is expected to come with a new chip that will offer better performance and longer battery life than its predecessor, which uses the Exynos 9110 chip. This is good news for users who need to use their smartwatch extensively throughout the day. Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 based on a 4nm architecture could benefit the Pixel Watch 2 but given Google’s reliance on Exynos chips, we think Pixel Watch 2 will also come with an Exynos chipset.

In addition to hardware improvements, the Pixel Watch 2 is also expected to feature software updates, such as Google’s new Material You design language that offers customizable interfaces. An updated version of Wear OS is also expected, with new fitness tracking features such as overnight skin temperature and oxygen saturation stats.

Despite these updates, some features of the original Pixel Watch are expected to remain unchanged, such as the dome-shaped face and thick bezels. However, the band connector should likely remain the same, so owners of the first-gen Pixel Watch will be able to reuse their straps.
