Nexon EV catches fire in Pune; incident due to repair in unauthorised workshop, says Tata
In a video that surfaced recently, a Tata Nexon EV was found to have caught fire in the city of Pune in Maharastra. Tata Motors has now released an official statement which indicates that the fiery incident stemmed from a short circuit that was caused in the vehicle. Tata Motors says that the fault occurred due to a shoddy repair job that was done at an unauthorised shop. All occupants of the car at the time of accident were reported to be safe.
Tata Nexon EV fire: poor repair job the culprit
The Tata Nexon EV which caught fire had reportedly undergone a repair job at an unauthorised centre in the past. The manufacturer, upon investigation, reported that the headlight replacement job that was conducted was of inferior quality which led to a short circuit. The short circuit caused a zone in the front of the car to catch fire. Thankfully, the occupants of the car were unharmed.
Tata Motors in its statement said, “We understand that this vehicle recently underwent repairs, wherein the left headlamps were replaced at an unauthorised workshop. Over an extended period, this led to a short and trapped heat. The fitment and repair process, at the unauthorised workshop, had shortcomings, which caused an electrical malfunction in the headlamp area leading to the thermal incident. The affected area is concentrated only in the zone of repairs carried out. We remain engaged with the customer to offer all the support needed.”
Tata Motors suggests that all kinds of service and repair jobs be conducted at Tata Motors’ authorised service centres and touchpoints to avoid such malfunctions. Earlier, a Tata Nexon EV in Mumbai had caught fire while the owner was driving the vehicle. This has been the case with many EVs and the safety aspect still remains a big question in the minds of many prospective buyers.
In other news, Tata recently launched a new #Dark edition model of the Tata Nexon EV for the 2023 model year with a new and upgraded 10.25-inch Harman touchscreen.
