Google Pixel 7a to get Face Unlock feature, suggests new leak

Highlights
  • As per a leak, the Google Pixel 7a will come with a face unlock feature out of the box.
  • Pixel 7a expected to be available immediately after the announcement on May 10th.
  • Pixel 7a is tipped to cost $499 (approx Rs 41,000).

Google is all set to launch its new Pixel A-series smartphone, the Pixel 7a, next month at the company’s Google I/O 2023 conference. While key details about the phone have leaked in the past, the company is likely to introduce incremental changes to the design of its entry-level Pixel phone, while upgrading the hardware and software.

One of the key areas where the Pixel 7a is expected to receive an upgrade over its predecessor, the Pixel 6a, is in terms of face unlock support. The Pixel 6a lacked an AI-based facial recognition system to unlock the phone, but with the Pixel 7a, Google is reportedly adding this feature for user convenience.

According to tipster Snoopy Tech, who shared some UI images of the phone, the Pixel 7a will have a flat display with a hole-punch cutout at the top centre and slightly thicker bezels. Additionally, the phone will offer two types of biometric authentication methods, including the face unlock feature along with an in-display fingerprint sensor.
