Ola S1 Pro’s battery could cost you a whopping Rs 90,000 to replace!
Electric scooter popularity has been on the rise in India and more companies now deliver a higher range and tons of features. However, the biggest contributor to an EV’s price still remains its batteries and buyers are always eager to enquire about the hole in their pocket if the battery needs to be replaced at some point in time. A recent picture that has gone viral shows that the 4kWh battery pack on the Ola S1 Pro costs a whopping Rs 87,298.
Ola battery replacement cost
A recent image that has surfaced might shock many – the Ola 4kWh (3.97kWh) battery pack for the Ola S1 Pro can set you back by Rs 87,298 if it needs to be replaced beyond warranty. While Ola Electric offers a 3-year / unlimited kilometre warranty, the cost of replacing a battery pack could be up to 62 percent of the total cost of the vehicle. The Ola S1 Pro is currently being sold at a discount and has been priced at Rs 1.28 lakh (ex-showroom).
The economics are similar even when one considers the Ola S1 premium electric scooter with a smaller 3kWh (2.98kWh) battery pack. A picture of the label on the packaging of the battery pack reads an MRP of Rs 66,549. The Ola S1 premium electric scooter costs Rs 99,999 (ex-showroom). This means that the battery pack on the Ola S1 electric scooter costs as much as 66 percent of the total cost of the EV. Last year, a similar debate came into the picture, as Tata Nexon EV’s battery replacement cost came to Rs 7 lakh.
Battery packs however are meant to last for a long while before they need replacing, and the company also takes into the battery health deterioration and has engineered provisions that enable the battery packs to last longer. However, the question arises later in the vehicle’s life cycle, when the battery health has diminished and the electric scooter has run out of the warranty period.
