  • The new Mac mini with M2 Pro beats M1 powered mini as well as the M1 Max
  • The new Mac mini will be available in India from January 24th onwards

Apple’s new Mac mini, powered by the M2 Pro chipset, has seemingly surpassed the performance of previous-generation Mac minis on Geekbench. The M2 Pro Mac mini has also managed to triumph over the M1 Pro and M1 Max devices, including 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. The recently launched Mac mini returned with a score in access to 15,000 in its first-ever benchmarking test. While the unit was equipped with 16GB of unified memory, the new M2-equipped Mac mini model offers a great deal of customizability off the shelf as it allows users to select a greater capacity unified RAM as compared to earlier models.

M2 Pro Mac mini Geekbench scores

A new Geekbench listing of the Mac mini with the new M2 Pro SoC paired to 16GB of unified RAM has secured 1,952 and a multi-core score of 15,013 for a configuration. This is higher than its predecessor, the Mac mini which ran on the M1 chipset. To give you some perspective, the M1-powered mini achieved a single-core score of 1,715 and a multi-core score of 7,442 on the same benchmarking site.

Moreover, the M2 Pro chipset on the new Mac mini has outdone the previous generation 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro under the hood. These MacBook Pro models posted a single-core score of 1,734 and a multi-core score of 10,076.

Additionally, the M2 Pro in the Mac mini has managed to beat Apple’s very own top dog, the M1 Max chipset. The M1 Max had earlier recorded 1,727 single-core and 12,643 multi-core scores. This means that the M2 Pro betters the M1 Max in single-core performance by a 13 percent margin and the multi-core performance by over 15 percent. The Geekbench benchmarking results for the M2 Pro-powered 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models aren’t out yet but can be expected to be similar to the new Mac mini’s performance.

The M2-powered Mac mini too has been listed on Geekbench and has managed to secure a single-core score of 1,951 and a multi-core score of 9,003. These results are similar to the M2-based MacBook Air’s performance.

Mac mini 2023 price, availability

The M2-powered Mac mini starts at Rs 59,900 while the M2 Pro-powered Mac mini starts at Rs 1,29,900 in India. Apple will start deliveries from January 24th onwards.
