New and upcoming Tamil movies and web series on OTT (November 2022): Ponniyin Selvan, Maanadu, Kaiyum Kalavum, and more
The Tamil industry has churned out quite a few gems in the past year, including Kamal Haasan’s latest film Vikram and the recent historical drama Ponniyin Selvan. Many such films are making their way to OTT platforms, such as Amazon Prime Video, Zee5, Disney Plus Hotstar, and Netflix, ranging from a variety of genres. While Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan leads the list, there are several others to look forward to, including family dramas, thrillers, comedies and slice-of-life films.

New and upcoming Tamil films on OTT
1. Ponniyin Selvan-1
Mani Ratnam’s grand historical spectacle Ponniyin Selvan became one of the biggest Tamil blockbusters of 2022. The film, which starred Karthi, Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi and Trisha Krishnan among others, is based on Kalki’s works of the same name. The story follows the fictional story of warring dynasties and rivalries within the Chola Kingdom, in the ninth century.

2. Kaiyum Kalavum
Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the film follows a serendipitous turn of events where a compulsive thief and a pickpocket unite and are drawn together with every theft they manage to pull off.

3. Maanadu
A Tamil thriller, directed by Venkat Prabhu, the film chronicles the story of a common man and a police officer, both of whom are trapped in a time loop, at the day of a public conference of the chief minister and are forced to live the same day over and over again. The film stars Silambarasan, SJ Suryah and Kalyani Priyadarshan.

Maanadu will release on November 25th on Amazon Prime Video.
4. Five Six Seven Eight
Five Six Seven Eight is a series that chronicles the lives of several teenagers who love dancing but do not have professional training. The web series has been directed by Vijay, Prasanna J.K., and Mrudhula Sridharan.

Five Six Seven Eight will stream on Zee5 from November 18th.
5. Velan
The film tells the story of a man named Velan, who falls out of favour with his father, who is respected in his village. The confusion begins after Velan falls in love with a Malayali girl, as his father fixes his marriage with another Malayali girl from the same college. The film stars Mugen Rao, Meenakshi Govindarajan, Prabhu, Soori, Sriranjani and Hareesh Peradi among others.

Velan will stream on Zee5, from October 27, 2022.
6. Fall series
The series tells the story of a woman who has no recollection of the 24 hours prior to her suicide attempt. She struggles to piece together the events, realising that she cannot trust anyone around her, not even her close friends and family. Directed by Siddarth Ramaswamy, the show stars S.P.B. Charan, Sonia Agarwal, Santhosh Pratap, Namita Krishnamoorthy, Thalaivasal Vijay among others.

Fall will debut on Disney Plus Hotstar on October 22, 2022.
7.Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu
A gangster film directed by Gautam Vasudev, the film focusses on a young boy who travels to Mumbai to earn a living for himself. However, as events spiral out of control, he gets dangerously involved in the underground activities of Mumbai’s gangsters. The film stars Silambarasan Rajendar, Siddhi Idnani, and Radhika Sarathkumar.

8.Karaiyerum Kanavugal
Released in 2021, the film has been directed by K. P. S. Saamyy, while Rajesh Balakrishnan and Sandra Babu play pivotal characters. There is not much we know about Karaiyerum Kanavugal yet, but what we can tell is that it is a drama movie that will surely have your heart.
