One UI 5.0 update tracker: Release date in India, features, eligible devices, beta download, and more
Samsung’s One UI 5.0 custom Android skin has officially been unveiled. Based on the latest Android 13 update, the skin intends to bring enhancements to the software, with new gestures, features, animation, and more. The One UI 5.0 is said to roll out to all eligible devices in Samsung’s portfolio in the coming months. In case you are wondering about the One UI 5.0 release date, features, eligible devices, beta updates, and more, we have got you covered. Here’s everything you need to know about Samsung’s upcoming custom Android skin:
One UI 5.0 release date
The One UI 5.0 was officially unveiled at Samsung’s Development Conference (SDC) 2022 on October 12th. The software has started rolling out to compatible devices. The first batch to receive the update will be Samsung’s latest top-end lineup i.e. Galaxy S22 series which includes the vanilla Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra. This is being done in a phased manner, which means that the software may not be available on your devices just yet.
As for the rest of the devices, Samsung will continue to run beta testing programs for certain devices such as the Galaxy S21 series to get rid of major flaws in the software for an issue-free stable release.
OneUI 5.0 beta download: How to apply for the beta update
Users keen on getting their hands early on the One UI 5.0 can apply for the public beta update whenever it’s made available by the company for their device. In order to do so,
- Head over to the Samsung Members app on your Samsung Galaxy phone. If you haven’t installed it, you can do so by downloading it from the Play Store or Galaxy Store
- Now, log in to the app using your Samsung account or create one if haven’t already by going to https://account.samsung.com
- Next, look for the One UI beta programme banner on the home tab and tap on it. If you cannot find the banner go ahead and check under the ‘notices’ page
- You’ll be prompted to agree to the disclaimers and other formalities in order to install the beta update
- Click on ‘Enrol Now’ and after a couple of minutes you may receive a software update notification
- Simply download the update and install it on your Samsung phone to enjoy the latest UI designs and features
Do note that the beta update will only be available on the Samsung Members app when Samsung officially announces it. It is always recommended to take a full backup of your phone’s data such as media files, SMS, call logs etc. before going ahead with the One UI 5.0 beta update or any major update for that matter.
For the uninitiated, a beta update could have tons of bugs and issues with the software that may hamper the day-to-day usage experience. Therefore, we would advise you to not download it on your primary device.

This One UI 5 update roadmap is based on the official schedule shared by Samsung on the Samsung Members app in the South Korean market. There is no information regarding OneUI 5.0 global rollout schedule yet. That said, users in India can expect their devices to get the latest One UI update right after it lands in South Korea.
One UI 5.0 features
With the One UI 5 update, Samsung is focusing on making refinements to the existing software while integrating several features of Android 13. One may also find visual improvements throughout the skin as well as nifty privacy and security upgrades. Here’s a list of some of the key features of One UI 5:
Deep Material You integration
One UI 5 will integrate the Android’s Material You theme more prominently into the system than ever before. Various elements such as the volume picker will now adapt either to the wallpaper’s colour or to a predefined colour. Apart from that, the dynamic theming engine is also getting an upgrade with support for more colours leading to better personalisation.
Lockscreen customisation
With One UI 5, the lock screen is also getting a major upgrade in terms of customisation. Users can now hold and long press on the lock screen to instantly change its look and feel by applying fancy fonts and changing the colour of time and date.
Extract text from images
One UI 5 comes with an OCR (Optical Image Recognition) feature which will allow users to copy and paste text from images in the gallery or camera app. This particular feature has made its way to Samsung’s keyboard as well in which the text can be scanned and copied right into the clipboard.
Swipe/ drag for split-screen
Many Android skins have had certain gestures to quickly activate split-screen mode. With the One UI 5.0 update, Samsung is finally introducing this feature to make multitasking a tad bit easier and quicker. To quickly summon split screen mode in One UI 5, users can drag to the top, bottom, left or right edge of the screen to use two different apps simultaneously side by side.
Swipe for a pop-up view
Similar to the new gesture to enter into the split-screen mode, One UI 5 is introducing a brand new way to use apps in the pop-up view. Users will be able to simply swipe from the corner of the display to the middle of the screen to use the particular app in the pop-up view.
Samsung Notes collaboration
The Samsung Notes app now supports sharing of notes with up to 100 people. According to the given permissions by the note creator, everyone with whom the note is shared can write, edit and even view live changes within the shared note.
Privacy hub
The privacy section has always played a major role in One UI with year-on-year additions. This time around, Samsung has redesigned the Security and privacy hub from the ground up in One UI 5. Its purpose is to provide the phone’s security status every now and then and notify the user about any issues related to the security of the device, apps taking unnecessary permissions, and more.
Enhancements to the camera app
OneUI 5 has simplified certain elements in the camera app such as making the ‘Pro’ mode more understandable by giving each option a larger button. Apart from that, watermarks within the camera can be now customised by choosing the text’s font and alignment settings.
Android 13 additions
OneUI 5 update will bring along the core Android 13 features as well such as stricter privacy controls for apps, notification permissions on the first launch of an app, integrated Fast Pair, subtle theming improvements, and much more.
Some other One UI 5 features
- Call backgrounds: With One UI 5, users will be able to set call backgrounds for individual contacts for easy identification of the caller from a distance.
- Updated app icons: Several first-party app icons such as the messages app have been redesigned to make them bolder and easier to recognize. Along with that, system-based icons are now more vibrant than before.
- Samsung keyboard: Samsung keyboard is getting several upgrades as well, including the option to customise the button next to the spacebar or tap and hold the expression buttons to rearrange them. The emoji pair feature is also getting a bump by bringing 88 new emoji pairs and 10 animations for expressing emotions more effectively while chatting.
- Samsung Dex: To quickly find and open apps in DeX mode, a search button is added on the taskbar which can also be customised to show different apps. Also, clicking on the date in the taskbar now opens a mini calendar.
- Stack widgets on home screen: In order to keep the home screen organised and less cluttered, One UI 5 is bringing the support to stack different widgets on top of each other. Just drag a widget onto another one to create a stack. Once done, you can swipe left and right to switch between the widgets.
