World’s largest EV maker BYD to launch its Atto 3 electric SUV in India this year

World’s largest EV maker, Warren Buffett-backed BYD is working towards the launch of its first mainstream product in India, the Atto 3 EV SUV. The EV SUV from the Chinese EV maker is expected to come to India sometime in the October – December 2022 period. BYD currently sells the e6 EV MPV in India to fleet owners and is rooting for the Atto 3 EV SUV to get it started with private car buyers in the Indian market. 

BYD Atto 3 eSUV India launch

The BYD Atto 3 EV SUV is expected to start BYD’s ambitions in the private passenger car market in India. The Atto 3 is a global product and has already been adapted for right-hand drive markets such as Singapore, Australia and New Zealand, where it is already on sale. The vehicle will enter the Indian shore via the semi-knocked down (SKD) route, and the vehicle will carry a sticker price of about Rs 30 lakh.

The company has now also made the e6 MPV available for private buyers, and the Atto 3 EV SUV will join it when it launches in India. The Atto 3 is expected to go on sale in 2023, Sanjay Gopalakrishnan, Senior VP, Electric Vehicle Passenger Business, BYD India, told Autocar Professional. 

BYD will expand operations to 25 top cities and expand its charging infrastructure also. 

The company is eager to bring its Blade Battery technology. The BYD e6 is currently serving well with 470km of range in the city. The world’s largest EV maker also aims to boost the sales of the e6 from 75 units a month to 150 units. The company wants to tap into the country’s electrification pace. BYD also holds strategic relations with Daimler and Toyota.
