Which cities will get 5G in India first: check if yours is on the list
India will soon witness the fifth generation network launch, with internet speed said to be 10x faster than 4G. 5G services in India could start to roll out in October in 13 major cities first and gradually get broader throughout the country. The Government of India has given a green signal to telecom companies to prepare for a 5G launch in India. Word is that Jio and Airtel will be at par and could be the first providers of 5G services in India.
In fact, both have already revealed their plans to launch 5G for cities in India and aim to cover every town by 2024. Meanwhile, Vodafone Idea (Vi) has silently started sending a message to subscribers in Delhi about launching a 5G network in the not-so-further future.
However, there is still no exact date when India will see the 5G network from the telecom service providers. Rumour mill has it that PM Narendra Modi could launch 5G at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) held on September 29th, 2022. On the occasion of India’s 75th Independence day, PM Modi, in a speech, said that optical fibre would soon come to the Indian village doorsteps, and the remotest parts of India would see the Internet.
“India’s techade is here! With 5G, semiconductor manufacturing & Optical Fibre Cable (OFCs) in villages, we are bringing a revolution through Digital India to the grassroots level,” said PM Narendra Modi.
Like the 4G network, the new 5G network will also roll out in a phased manner, starting with 13 cities and slowly spreading throughout India. The first 13 cities to witness the 5G network are Delhi, Gurugram, Chandigarh, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Jamnagar, and Kolkata.
The 5G network will be faster with low latency than the 4G network and can connect more devices.
