Google Pixel 6a durability test: does the phone survive bend test?
Google Pixel 6a is a hot topic in the tech world these days. This Pixel smartphone has made headlines, with a camera comparison with Nothing Phone (1) and iPhone SE 2022, and also saw a performance test. Recently, we reported that the Pixel 6a was being sold on Amazon at a cheaper price without a warranty. Now, to get an idea of how important that one-year brand warranty of Google Pixel 6a (review) is, we’ll look at its durability test performed by Youtuber Zack from JerryRigEverything with his traditional ritual of scratch, burn, and bend test. Let’s dive into it.
Google Pixel 6a bend, scratch, burn tests
Kicking things off, the handset gets a scratch test on its OLED panel that has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. This display survives level 7 scratches on the Mohs hardness scale and the fingerprint scanner – which has a security flaw – continues to work fine after receiving the same treatment. Under the flame of a lighter, the display holds strong for 10 seconds before the pixels start to turn white.
Next, the Google Pixel 6a meets Zack’s razor blade. The sides of the device are metal, but the buttons are plastic. The camera visor also gets the same therapy, the lens survives, but the rest of the frame doesn’t. To prove that, unlike the Google Pixel 6 Pro’s glass panel, this Pixel smartphone has a plastic body at the rear, the Youtuber draws a giraffe with a razor.
Now, the Pixel 6a feels the pressure of Zack’s hands. Bending it from the front doesn’t give much flex. So far, all good. Applying pressure from the back, however, shows the display struggling to stick to the body as it starts to lift a bit, but no cracks were witnessed.
