AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C port to launch this year, Apple Watch Series 8 to have a thermometer: Report
Apple seemingly has a number of new announcements up its sleeve, and some of them include changes that users of the company’s products have demanded for a while. According to the rumours, the changes will make an impact not just on the company’s upcoming iPhones, but also the impending Apple Watch Series 8 and the second generation of its ‘Pro’ earbuds, the Apple AirPods Pro 2.
AirPods Pro 2 to switch to USB-C
A report by Phone Arena has indicated a change in the Apple lineup, with this one being a precursor to a company-wide change in the coming days. According to the report, Apple will switch to a USB-C port for the upcoming second generation of the AirPods Pro. The Apple AirPods Pro 2 is expected to offer better audio quality, but also switch to USB-C as the company transitions to the universal port going forward.
Apple has already switched to USB-C on its Macs and iPads, with the exception of the iPhone lineup still using its proprietary Lightning port. However, with the European Union mandating the use of USB-C on all devices by 2024, Apple is expected to switch all its devices to the latter going forward. For the AirPods lineup, the switch begins this year itself, with the AirPods Pro 2 launch expected in third or fourth quarter.
The AirPods Pro 2 will reportedly come with improved adaptive noise cancellation, Spatial Audio and Audio Sharing. The USB Type-C case is expected to come powered with fast charging support. The device may also come with sensors for heart rate and temperature monitoring.
Apple Watch Series 8 to finally get a thermometer?
According to a report on Bloomberg by Mark Gurman, a typically reliable analyst of Apple’s market movements and product launches, the Apple Watch Series 8 is seemingly set to feature a thermometer as a new sensor onboard its Watch body and interface. Reports about the Apple smartwatch featuring a way to measure body temperature and keep track of fevers and related general ailments have been around for a while, but never truly materialised.
Now, the Bloomberg report on the matter states that Apple’s upcoming smartwatch will feature a way to record and track body temperature. However, the company notes that the feature may not be rolled out to the company’s mid-range smartwatch, the Watch SE (2022). It also says that the thermometer onboard the Watch may not be highly accurate. However, Apple may instead design an interface to offer readers indicative body temperature signals – suggesting spikes that could preemptively detect upcoming illnesses, and suggest a visit to the doctor for the same.
