Electric scooter in India under Rs 1 lakh with 130km range! Honda may launch U-Go in India
Honda might soon launch the Honda U-Go electric scooter in India at a competitive price of under Rs 1 lakh. The Honda U-Go electric scooter was introduced in China last year and given the similarities in the market, it is slated to launch in India too. As per a report by Financial Express, Honda has applied for a patent in the country and might soon launch the U-Go electric scooter in India.
The Honda U-Go electric scooter could rank well if launched in India. The Honda U-Go claims to deliver about 130km of range and has been tailor-made for the urban city commute.
Honda U-Go electric scooter features
The Honda U-Go, which is classified as an electric moped in China, is designed to take on commuting duties in the city. Honda seems to have applied for the design patents for the scooter in India back in August and that has been journaled now.
The Honda U-Go incorporates some now expected features in the electric mobility segment, that include triple beam LED headlamps, LED turn indicators, floating LED tail lamps, LCD multi-information display, etc. The packaging is done in such a way that keeps the scooter compact both to aid ease of use as well as help reduce congestion in the city. The scooter also gets a 12-inch front wheel with telescopic front suspension and a disc brake set up and a 10-inch rear wheel set up with a drum brake unit. The U-Go tips the scale at 83kg.
The powertrain includes a single battery and a double battery pack setup. The single battery pack, which is a 48V 30Ah lithium-ion unit, allows the scooter to deliver a range of 65km. The double battery pack setup pushes the range up to 130km. The battery packs are removable also and can be charged at home. The lower variant is paired with a 0.8kW hub motor that allows the scooter to travel at a top speed of 43kmph. The higher variant with the bigger battery pack is paired with a 1.2kW motor that allows the scooter a top speed of 53kmph.
Honda U-Go price
The most interesting part of the scooter however is the value proposition. The lower variant of the Honda U-Go was launched in China at a price of RMB 7,499 (~ Rs 86,000). The higher-spec variant is priced at RMB 7,999 (Rs 92,000). Thus, one can expect the pricing on the Honda U-Go to be done aggressively especially if Honda decides to build the vehicles in India.
It is important to note that Honda had earlier patented multiple vehicles in India, which haven’t yet seen the light of the day.
