How well does PUBG New State run on your phone?

PUBG New State (review) is all the rage at the minute and for good reason – after all, the game comes as the successor to BGMI/PUBG Mobile which revolutionised mobile gaming in the years following its launch. Furthermore, while the overall gameplay mechanics remain the same across the titles, New State offers a plethora of interesting in-game elements including the ability to use drones, etc. More importantly, Krafton claims that PUBG New State’s graphics can rival that of PUBG PC, which is a bold claim, to say the least. Regardless, we decided to test the game across a variety of devices to see just how well the title scales across phones from different price segments.

PUBG New State

To that note, we amassed around 40-odd devices and decided to check the graphics and FPS settings of the game for each phone. Let’s take a look.

Top-end phones

Unsurprisingly, PUBG New State can run easily on most high-end devices. To wit, devices backed by Qualcomm’s 8-series processors, Exynos 990/2100 platform, and Apple’s A14/A15 Bionic SoCs could comfortably run the title at the Ultra graphics and Max FPS settings. In other words, you should be able to run the game comfortably at 60fps with the graphics maxed out and other visual effects like anti-aliasing enabled seamlessly.

Phone Processor  Graphics and FPS setting
Apple iPhone 13  A15 Bionic Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra Snapdragon 888 Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 Snapdragon 888 Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
Realme GT Snapdragon 888 Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
iQOO 7 Legend Snapdragon 888 Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
Vivo X70 Pro Plus  Snapdragon 888+ Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Exynos 990  Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 Snapdragon 888 Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
OnePlus 9 Pro  Snapdragon 888 Max FPS / Ultra Graphics

Affordable flagships

It goes without saying that PUBG New State could run comfortably on most, if not all affordable flagships too. Interestingly, while we had no doubt in our mind that the title would run flawlessly on say, the Snapdragon 870 SoC toting iQOO 7, the game managed to run just as well on ageing devices like the Galaxy S10 Lite too, which ships with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 chipset.

Phone Processor  Graphics and FPS settings
Realme GT Neo 2 Snapdragon 870 Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
Xiaomi Mi 11X Pro Snapdragon 888 Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro Snapdragon 865 Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
Samsung Galaxy S20 FE Exynos 990 Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
iQOO 7 Snapdragon 870 Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
Realme X7 Max Dimensity 1200 Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite Snapdragon 855 Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
Moto Edge 20 Pro Snapdragon 870 Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
OnePlus Nord 2  Snapdragon 870 Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
Vivo X60 Snapdragon 870 Max FPS / Ultra Graphics

Mid-range phones

Turn the page over to more wallet-friendly devices and here, we noticed that the game had difficulty running at the highest graphics and FPS presets on a handful of phones. To that note, the game ran just fine on phones backed by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765G chipset or better. However, devices employing, say, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 750G or 732G SoC could only run the game at Ultra FPS / High graphics or Very High FPS / Ultra graphics. Interestingly, phones backed by MediaTek’s Dimensity SoCs could – at least in theory – run the game at the highest possible settings.

Phone  Processor  Graphics and FPS settings
OnePlus Nord Snapdragon 765G Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
OnePlus Nord CE 5G Snapdragon 750G Ultra FPS / High graphics or Very High FPS / Ultra graphics
Xiaomi Mi 10i Snapdragon 750G Ultra FPS / High graphics or Very High FPS / Ultra graphics
Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite Snapdragon 732G Ultra FPS / High graphics or Very High FPS / Ultra graphics
OPPO F19 Pro Plus Dimensity 800U Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
Samsung Galaxy M52 5G Snapdragon 778G Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G Snapdragon 778G Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
Samsung Galaxy F62 Exynos 9825 Ultra FPS / High graphics or Very High FPS / Ultra graphics
Samsung Galaxy M51 Snapdragon 730G Ultra FPS / High graphics or Very High FPS / Ultra graphics
iQOO Z5 Snapdragon 778G Max FPS / Ultra Graphics

In fact, mid-range Dimensity SoCs including Dimensity 800U on the OPPO F19 Pro Plus could max out the game’s graphics and FPS settings. However, in practice, we noticed that the game would struggle to keep the frame rate capped at 60fps and there were noticeable frame drops when we jumped into a match.

Affordable phones

Contrary to popular belief, PUBG New State can, in fact, run well on affordable Android phones too. In fact, we managed to get the game running on devices like the Samsung Galaxy M12 as well, which ships with the company’s in-house Exynos 850 SoC. Interestingly, much like some devices retailing in the mid-range segment, we could max out the FPS and graphics settings for PUBG New State on select devices backed by MediaTek’s Dimensity 700 chipset, including Realme’s Narzo 30 5G, etc.

That said, our gaming experience wasn’t the best at said in-game settings and we ran into noticeable frame drops. Furthermore, the textures were rendered poorly too and despite turning on anti-aliasing, there were noticeable jagged edges around our character’s model.

Phone  Processor  Graphics and FPS settings
Infinix Hot 11S Helio G88 High FPS / High Graphics
Realme Narzo 50A Helio G85 High FPS / High Graphics
Moto G30 Snapdragon 662 Ultra FPS / High graphics or Very High FPS / Ultra graphics
Moto Edge 20 Fusion Dimensity 800U Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
Redmi Note 10 Pro Max Snapdragon 732G Ultra FPS / High graphics or Very High FPS / Ultra graphics
Realme X7 Dimensity 800U Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
iQOO Z3 Snapdragon 768G Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
Samsung Galaxy A22 5G Dimensity 700 Max FPS / Ultra Graphics
Samsung Galaxy M12 Exynos 850 High FPS / High Graphics
Realme Narzo 30 5G Dimensity 700 Max FPS / Ultra Graphics

Regardless, you should now have a good idea of how well your phone’s processor will handle PUBG New State. Do let us know in the comments below if you’re enjoying PUBG New State more than BGMI and for more tech coverage, stay tuned to our blog.
